I drive a Neon.

I bought it because I had no money :(

They make fun of Neons because their car isn't fun enough for them, lol. Probably because of the Neon's inability to dominate the small car segment, where other foreign manufacturers have capitalized on during the past ten years.

I don't know; I like my Neon. It gets me to school, work, anywhere so no complains here. :D

when i got my neon i got made fun of so much...ppl asked how much my parents paid for it and it was 10,500..kids laughed and said i could get a car way faster for a fraction of the cost....

but then i laughed at them when they told me their mpg and insurance rates...

and those are the main reasons i love my neon.

I love it....I just get excited when people make fun of me owning a Neon, and I'll admit, I didnt like them when they came out, the "Hi" think killed it. Then I needed an econobox when my ex wife got pregnant. I looked at a 99 Honda Civic EX. It had 50K miles....and it was LOOOADED! The price of $14,500. I drove it, and it had no power...start doing some research...140HP, 80ish Tq. I then spotted my 2001 Neon. No power windows or locks, no sunroof, no Cd player, but I said, sure, I'll check it out. Wow..it was peppy even stock, comfortable, and at $8000 with 25K miles was a deal.

Now, after 2 engines (both MY fault) and even it sitting in a shop for over a year getting a turbo setup I still love it. I added a Dodge emblem from a 2500 Dodge truck that is just huge on the trunk lid. Why? So the honda bois KNOW what beat them.

When I worked at the parts store I had this little 16 year old with a 1.6 Vtec civic ALWAYS doggin on my car..."Sure it looks fast...for a girls car..." One day I just clocked out and took him outside, we lined up in front of the store, I let him get at least a car ahead of me before i left. he was a dot in the mirror when I shut down...."My Vtec didnt kick in!" Whatever.....we run again..."I missed 3rd!' We ran again...each race got worse and worse...after the 3rd he must have been out of excuses because all he could say was "Its still a bitch car!'...again, whatever. Another Honda, this time a H22 swapped civic pulled next to me at 45mph on a nice flat road, rolled his window down and started pointing and laughing then downshifted to 3rd. I did the same and by the time I was at 4000 RPm in 4th he was fading away into the background. He pulls up at the next light, windows up, and wouldnt look my direction..I was even honking and waving, but of course no responce. V-6 Mustangs and Camaro's are the same way...I LOVE beating people in a Neon, its just a slap in the nuts to misinformed and ignorant car owners.
The neons unattractiveness to everyone else but people who own them is the reason I keep mine, and keep modding it. Sure, it was never featured in a Fast and Furious movie, or featured in Sport Compact Car, or Super Street. Let those poeple keep telling everyone the Neon isnt a competetive street car...it makes it oh so much more fun to beat other cars. The last time I had the car out at the street races a friend of mine was trying to get a dude with a Dakota R/T to race me....ok, a Magnum 360 in a DAKOTA, he took one look at the car and started laughing. I said I'd race him for $50. He popped the hood, looked around a minute, said "No race" and walked away, everyone else was looking for something he might have seen, no N20, no turbo, just a lil 2.0 Magnum engine with an intake and header (all thats really visable) Later he was telling everyone I had direct port nitrous and a huge turbo...

Well, enough of the love story...as far as people hating on Neons, let em hate. Like others, I dont really bother trying to explain it anymore, I just smile when they talk shit out their ass about something they know little about. Oh, and as far as the "Disgrace to Imports" comment...it would be a disgrace to call it an import!. I went to a car show and they were hell bent on putting me in the Import class...I left.

Like many others here, i love my neon. I guess i was "fortunate" enough to miss out on the HI ad campaign, i really didn't know anything about neons until it came time to getting a car when i was 16. One thing i noticed when looking for cars was the large amount of used imports for sale...and not that many neons? I figured something must be up with imports and started looking into the neon. The first neon i went and test drove was a 4 door 97 plymouth. It ended up being my first car. It just fit. I loved how easy it was to drive, it was peppy, and everything about it fit. It wasn't until after i had it a couple months i started looking the aftermarket possibilities of neons. Sadly after a year i had to get rid of it due to the head gasket, water pump, and a plug in the block all going out in a relatively short timespan. But my experience with the 97 neon was so enjoyable i couldn't help but get a 2004 SXT. So far i have been genuinly pleased with my neon. At first, everybody asked me if it was an SRT-4, which really pointed out how uneducated many people are about neons.

*they believed it was an SRT-4 even when it was completely stock.

I ordered my 1GN before the "Hi!" ads started appearing (I knew about the car several months before introduction and had already seen a fleet brochure before my dealer got his literature). I took delivery of my '95 Plymouth Highline in March of '94 and received positive comments from everyone. People asked me to roll my window down at stoplights so that they could ask, "What kind of car is that?" I didn't mind the ads or the "cute" angle that ChryCo used at the time as it brought a lot of awareness to an unknown vehicle.
I was extremely hesitant to purchase a 2GN and would have kept my '95 if it hadn't started rusting at eight years and 121K miles. But my '02 SXT chased away my fears and I have been a happy 2GN owner ever since.

I guy tried selling me a 95 when they first came out but it was a totally stripped model...no A/C, no radio, I think a steering wheel was an option....I ended up getting a 4 cyl grand am. 10 years later I finally get a neon and love it! Would love a 1st gen DOHC or 01 Magnum. Hope to keep my NEON for a long time...

I think if DCX would have charged an extra 5k it would have been taken more seriously...low price=cheap. They don't hold value very well either and that hurts (unless you buy used and then it is AWESOME).

I traded a 944 porsche for my neon, the damn radiator and the water pump went up, and i didnt have the money so i got a new/used car. so with no money down and bad credit it was either a Focus wagon, a neon, or a echo...... so i said which one is a stick and the neon won. Been in love since.

This is almost sounding like "How or Why did you get your neon?"

I started with an 03 SXT since thats all I could afford with my crappy credit history, in the meantime I found 2GN and started diggin into the "Neon" a year later an 02 R/T was traded in and I found out I could refinance and trade my 03 SXT in even up for the 02 R/T and drop my interest rate down from 19% with Chrysler financial down to 6% with the credit union. I was looking at it as a new toy fully loaded and the dealership was looking at it as a car they could sell since not many people buy MTX's here....
So long story short, 2GN mostly got me into the "Neon" thing...

I got my neon because it was between that, a contour w/ alot of miles, or a newer nissan sentra.

I realy wanted the sentra at the time, I didnt like the neon much at first. till i drove away from the dealership after doing all the paper work and it clicked that it was mine.
