Water Temp Gauge ???

Post by kc2005ptgt » Wed Nov 22, 2006 3:22 pm

Ok, I know where the sending unit goes, but my question is this - on the stock sender there is 2 wires, a black/green and yellow/brown (? maybe, it was dark)... when I tried hooking up the sender wire from the guage to either it did one of two things:

1) hooked to blk/grn = CEL 0118, erratic idle, stock temp guage didnt work, as didn't the aftermarket guage
2) hooked to yel/brn = no CEL, no erratic idle, stock guage worked, but aftermarket guage went all the way up to 250 degrees, and did not read correctly.

Any help with this? How do I use the aftermarket sender and still be able to use the stock one? It just doesnt make sense!!!

Anyone who has an aftermarket one can chime in, too. :D

You cant tap into the OE wiring since the pcm wont see the proper voltage(signal)....

I think I got it now - the T fitting will go into the hole, and one sender on each side of the T, yes? Got it.

Ok, I have looked around and can not find a T fitting, Autozone does have brass fittings, but not T's and I am not sure what size, thread, etc to run... anyone have a clue as to what size I need, thread size, etc?? Thanks :D

The hole tapped into the head has 3/8 NPT threads, which is probably the same as your temp gauge sensor as well. So you just need a 3/8 NPT tee like this one:

This is the site where I always go to get fittings. They have pretty much everything:

If you do get the tee from here, that part number is: 28-247 :)

Good, good. Shoud be finishing up in a day or so. Hotside IC piping is pretty much all that's left.

One more quick note about that tee for the CLT sensor. Both sensors might not fit directly onto the tee. Depending on the size of the tee, the tips of the sensors may interfere in the middle. I just used a 3/8 male x 3/8 female adapter (bushing) to space one sensor out a little bit.
