Ive never been a big fan of shit lights on street cars . . . esp 4 cylinders that are under 250hp
But I can tell you this: Autometer makes very good shift lights IMO
And as far as working with an aftermarket tach - They do work
. . Or you can get aftermarket tach with shift lights on them
I helped a buddy of mine install one years ago - He had a tach with a built in shift light -

some companies make them w/o the tach, just look around. autometer does i think. might be a bit costly tho

in one of my minitrukn mags they had an article on one... it had a little dial in the back kinda like a kitchen timer. you would just set the dial to the rpms and connect it to the tach and viola

These seem to be the most popular shift lights with the SRT crowd over on SRTforums. They aren't badly priced, they look good, and are pretty darn easy to install.

Autometer makes a nice slim shift light.... with different RPM modules.. here's the link

But i believe in order to get a RPM reading, you will need a tach driver so you can get a signal to the shift light. Hope this helps.

I almost replaced my A/F Guage with this recently, but instead I bought a new short-shifter and some other gofast parts But I really like the digital RPM and shift lights, etc.
But like stated earlier, kinda useless to add a tach to a car with a tach already
