How do I get boogers out of shifter?
Howdy all,
I was trying to install my Maddog STS today, but I can't seem to get the passenger side booger insert out.
I tried using pliers, vice grips, string, and i even sprayed some penetrating fluid in there, but i still failed.
Does anyone else have any good ideas on how to get this thing out?

I went through the same thing my self, pushed, pulled, used pliers, screw drivers, everything, nearly broke my shifter, then it came off when i used both a large screw driver to pry them off WHILE pulling on the cable head,,,, did not come out intact though (neither were my hands..nasty scrapes), and make sure you do not ruin your shifter cables,,,they will most likley break before the booger's do......
these are i guess (a one time application) set of bushings, ...... be preprared to get a new set ....
unless someone else knows a better way to do this !!!

hmm, hook pliers sound like the way to go. I'll have to go pick some up on the way to work.

FYI for everyone in the future... BE CAREFUL doing this or working with taking it off. The shifter cables there break easily where you'll either have to repair using a repair kit that "Kyle" (thats his username) on neons.org sells or buy another set of cables and replace them. Just be careful where you pry or pull from...

I am not looking forward to installing my new shifter. I tried once already to remove the old shifter with boogers in, and no luck - 2 hrs of work and nothing. We'll see how it goes.

STS is installed! I haven't driven it around yet so I don't have any driving impressions, but it's in.
As far as getting the boogers off, i ended up using a screw driver to get into the back lip behind the shift cable/booger and then pried both pieces towards me. Miraculously, they popped off.
I couldn't find 'hook' pliers at Advance Auto or Lowe's, so i figured i'd try it again with my ole' tools and it finally worked.
As far as getting the shift cable metal holder thingies off of the front of the shifter, i wedged my screwdriver in between the tab and the shifter and hit the screwdriver a few times with a hammer. THe metal pieces popped right off after a few hits.

I don’t remember having trouble changing my shifter. Of course it was one of the first three things I did to my car with in the first month of driving it off the lot a year ago. Hmm, oh well I guess ill look into it when I get home. I need to change my boogers too. So anyone have a suggestion as of where to buy and brand to go with?
