really stupid question

hey, i've got a plan for my neon. it is very....wierd...yet if it can be pulled off, extremely cool in my opinion. does anybody know if any kind of V8 has been transplanted into a neon? My first thought was
"i wonder if you could fit a hemi in there?" but seeing as how that is a monsterously large motor, i thought maybe something smaller, some kind of small block. SO, does anybody have any knowledge into this subject? is it possible? yes i know there is a TON of work to go into it and to be honest, probably will never be done (at least by me).
SO, i think this is an interesting topic...what do you all think?

If you search over on neons.org for this topic, there's pictures and video of a 1st gen with a v8 in it... so yes, it has been done.
The car is even RWD.

Anything with money and the know how can be done, the cost to effective ness is a big factor, I seen a ford focus with a huge engine in it and it was tube all in the front which allows you to custom make the mounting points for your new engine. Start there cause if you can get a custom tube mounted on the front frame of your car you can put just about any engine in that thing.

Easist way would be to put a neon body shell on a Dakota or some small truck platform. If you started with a normal Neon, you'd be down to just the body shell before you could put a V8 in it.

agreed. basically, you'd have to tube frame the entire the front end, modifiy the firewall, build a tunnel, probably need a roll cage for increased support, and then another tube frame in the rear before you could set a rear end, suspension,, etc into place. Thats kind of what i've got planned out in my head. so after all was said is done, it'd look very similar to a race car inside haha. BUT, if done right, i'd hope to keep the stock look inside and out. I've seen a couple old Z's on cardomain that look very nice and have had some similar modifications done (tubed front end) and maintained a "stock" appearance.
I hope to keep my neon as long as possible, i mean come on, they dont make em anymore! The longer i have it, the better the chance of this dream coming true (v8)

Not worth the effort. In the end you'd just have a neon shell.

Not worth it. Sure its been done, but I dont think any of the ones that have been built are anywhere close to being street cars. And remember Z cars are already RWD, and the focus' have body pans/chassis that allow for the AWD version sold overseas, which means its already been designed to have a rear end and driveline run though it in some fashion. Those factors make swaps into those cars much easiler to do and keep most of the original car intact.
Meh.

hmmm maybe its better to stick to fwd lol. When is the caliber srt-4 supposed to come out? I know that is supposed to be awd, but maybe someone will try to squeeze that motor into a neon? 3oo hp correct?
*correction* its not awd like i thought it was, i did some quick research and its fwd.

easiest way in my mind is use and older mustang frame and mod it for a neon shell.....i had thought about that because, well i have both sitting in my back yard but i sold the shell so.....due to the tranny being under the car instead of in the bay like our cars, you have to cut the floor and weld a rather large hump in the middle to fit the tranny and new driveshaft.....i would just use a 60s mustang and take the body off and replace it w/a neon shell

Pics of ford focus with v8
here is a link to them doing it on a focus
http://www.tcf-v8-focus-conversions.com ... index.html
Now for my theory if you take a ford focus and put the motor in it and the chop it and weld neon all over it it should be about the same length.

hey thanks for posting those pics and the video. If it wasn't such a drag car (huge tires, wheelie bar. they might be necessary though lol) and looked a little more stock, i think that car would be fun as hell to drive around in.
