Buying an SRT-4

Post by AnarchyBurger » Sun Jan 14, 2007 1:37 am

Hello everyone,

I just got my license around a month ago. Right now I drive an 05 SXT, but im looking to get an SRT-4. I was originally planning on getting an Impreza WRX or an STi, but after seeing some SRT-4's beat my friend's WRX, I am leaning more towards the SRT-4 (mainly due to the lower price). Right now I have about 2,000 in the bank. I would like to sell my 05 Neon SXT and get an SRT-4, but how much do you think I could get for it? Its all stock and has about 18,000 miles on it. Also, how much does a stock SRT-4 with relatively low mileage go for?

Thanks for the input.

That's pretty low miles for an 05! You just got your license and you're already going on car number 2? Did you buy the SXT with your own money? Also is it MTX? If not you may want to get some more practice before you get an SRT-4.

There are some 04 SRT-4s going from $14-18,000. Prob a lot lower for a 03 with miles on it.

Mine would go for around $18K according to Kelly Blue Book (SRS seats, leather, Kicker, sunroof, 9K miles).

Keep the SXT for awhile and learn how to drive. Then after a year or so.. maybe longer.. when your more mature and have a feel for driving then upgrade.

+1
Did you have to pay for your 05 SXT? Cause if your parents bought it, and you/your parents still owe money on it, theres no way you will be able to sell and make any sort of profit on it. Its almost a brand new car and youw ant to sell it already? What do your parents think about that. (If they bought it) What about insurance? An SRT-4 will be WAY more in insurance than your SXT. But if you/your parents make good money and can easily afford one with no problems, go for it man.

Well as long as you can drive a stick proficiently and you are responsible with the power of the SRT-4 and respect the car, I see no reason why not. It's those last 2 you have to worry about...

i'm gonna be the dick and say that i don't wanna be anywere near you when your drive an srt. you want one just for the speed and power so you can race... totally wrong reason in my book. and like the others said you are young... not saying your not responsible, but the typical 16 year old isn't and from what you wrote... dosen't sound like you are ::shrugs::

As a srt owner...I would say you need to be older before you think of getting a fast and unsafe car. From what you have wrote so far you want an SRT for the wrong reasons. Street racing is dangerous and if you want examples there was a kid in florida not to long ago that died because he had the same attitude as you.

When I got my SRT I had been through a 93 cutless, 00 neon, 98 neon, and a 71 chevelle. Plus I graduated from a professional driving school. I knew what I was getting into and even I still wanted to stomp the gas and do stupid things. Which I did a couple of times...even after 6 years of driving, that car almost killed me twice.

But if you can respect the power and the dangers of the car than be my guest and work your ass off to have one. If you own it you will treat it better and most likely won’t drive it like you stole it.

Sorry for the harsh words...just want you to know what you are getting into.

Heh - I am going to play old man here:

1st, is the cars 'yours' and not your parents?
2nd, do you owe money on it?
3rd, if so - you won't get nearly anythign for it...
4th, if not - you won't get very much money for it, at leats not enough to cover the cost of an srt4
5th, insurance is a killer, especially for your age group

Now let me be the father that I am - you want an SRT4 because it beat your friends WRX. I assume you all were racing, and probably not at the track? I assume you don't know much about cars because one, you just started driving and two you are chosing an srt4 over an Sti  AWD > FWD and 300hp > 230hp

Anyway, dude, please if you are going to trade in your car for a fast car, please please please please please please do NOT race on the street! once you go above 70 mph driving becomes a WHOLE new game! Think about friends, family, others, and people out there who just want to get from A to B without being hit by some kid in a new, fast car he/she shouldn't be driving anyway.

I know, you are 16, and at this age you feel pretty indestructible and invincible right now, like you wont get an STD by having sex, and you sure wont wreck your car by driving fast - that happens to others, not you  This is typical thinking for people your age, so don't think I am coming down on you, I am just looking out for you and your family and others in your city you meet on the road...

Peace.

The first SRT-4 in my hometown was owned by a 16 year old kid.. a month or so Later he put it into Bear Creek. Yes into the CREEK.

I've had several friends DIE from being immature behind the wheel. I will Never trust a 16 year old, WHO JUST GOT THEIR LICENCE, with a car that will break your wrist and catch you off guard when you least expect it. You will KILL yourself if you are immature behind the wheel.

I have to been through several Performance Driving Schools. (Had to in order to race on the RoadCourses with the GSX) I feel comfortable behind the wheel. I know the limits of the car and the limits of myself and how to react in circumstances. Do you know how to launch a High HorsePower FWD car with the quickest accelleration and least amount of wheel spin? How bout driving an AWD car full out going into a sharp corner on a road course? Do you tap the gas, rotate the wheel, feather the clutch, ease on the brakes or what?

My point isnt to be a dick.. it's to be Real. An SRT-4 isnt just a fast car thats fun to drive. It's a Fast car that can be lethal in the hands of a driver who doesnt have experience behind the wheel. PERIOD

well, i think those who have posted sum up what i think.

get a little more experience under your belt. drive your sxt for another year or two. i think one of the best things that happened to me, for my driving atleast, is that i have been involved in organized drag racing since i was 10 years old. yes i started drag racing at 10 years old.

i grew up at the track and i think that helped me respect power.

the srt-4 is a beast, plain and simple. if you cant handle the power and dont respect the power you will die.

i wish my parents would have bought me cool stuff like an srt4 when i was 16...

like everyone else said, you're too young and inexperienced. But if you decide to get one, and you wreck it within the first couple months of owning it, you better make sure you get your ass onto this forum and sell these people who 'told you so' the usable parts off your car cuz you didnt deserve them. :violent1:

yeah that is one thing to remember, you have to carry FULL coverage on a car that you owe money on. So you're insurance payments will probably match or go above and beyond your car payment

Please get an older TD so when you kill yourself you wont take a good car with you. In all serisnouss get an OMNI GLH-T or something equivelant I am paying
$478 every 6mts on my shelby charger
$1093 every 6mts on the rt
$1095 on an srt-4
A TD will be insanely cheap to buy, run, dirve and insure. Plus with a little time and work it will be faster than an srt4. You can keep the sxt for some time untill you get the GLH sorted.

No, I pay the S/C by my self. The neon I am a secondary driver on so I only pay $500 to my mom so that it is discounted. I dont have an srt4 I just know what it would cost me to own one (not to mention the tickets)

Omg...
1st thing... Your 16, you don't need a race car...

2nd thing... Have you driven a WRX and a SRT-4??? It is a totally different experience and the cars were built for totaly different things. If you want a higher grade more reliable all year around go fast car, the WRX is it...

I love my Neons guys I do... But the SRT is a Neon, and it shows, believe me it shows...

But don't listen to me, Listen to every one eles who are insisting that you are too young for the car...
I don't want to have to read another story about somone getting killed in a street race and have to worry about the cops following me thinking Im getting ready to race...

All it takes is one dumb kid to get killed for more of our civil driving liberties to be taken away...

Most definintly. srt-4 is NO TOY!!! they will get away from even an experianced driver if not thinking. Ive driven 400 hp big block mopars that didnt catch me as off guard as my srt-4 did the first time.
Just my 2 cents.

Good to see some level head members on here. On the other board i post, this issue comes up quite often , and its always the older members (like myself) saying no not yet and the younger saying hell ya got for it. We've all been young and know the stupid immature stuff we did back then and are now lucky to look back at it and reflect, but not all are. If you go on the Srtforums , theres not one or two threads about deaths associated with taking this particular neon to its limits but many, and mainly all young guys. So i say stick to you're Sxt for awhile get accustomed to driving and manuevering. In the future maybe think about it again.

a wrx is just an impreza...now why don't people say that? Is that the only thing they can say to try and hurt the SRT? :P

You do have a point. It looks like one, it smells like one and it sure does taste like one!
