it was one of those stupid questions...hands down.

Not to mention, if he's coming on here not knowing any of us and asking if he should get a car, i wonder what his friends have him do, if he listens to us...i'd be amazed that he isnt the bitch of his social circle.

so you can figure he'll be out in his new honky dory srt4 and his friends will want him to do something stupid...guess what.....he'll probably do it...

honestly, i dont care what he does, it's just a waste of a car he's not ready for. But what do i know.

I wasn't going to say anything but here goes. Financially, I think that it would have been a mistake for him to go further about getting an SRT. Age-wise, I can only think of my own experience. I haven't had a ticket in over 30 years of driving so I think that I would have been okay with an SRT myself at that age. Would have been a lot different from the VW that I had at that time! :o

even though many cosider us kids, many of those that are younger are just horrible.

^^ Are they, or are you really generalizing? I have met as many if not more who really have their heads on straight, then again I have also met some who do not.

OT - remember, we live in a society the reports almost ALL the bad that happens in our neighborhoods, etc, so do we ever really hear about those who do not do bad? Seriously, there are some dummy's out there, but being around plenty of younger kids, I find that most are pretty good, and have a good head on their shoulders and do not do massively stupid things... they, unfortunately get grouped in with the rest of those (the minority, and no, not racial minority!) who
are :tardbang: 's...

Again, these are my observations, and my experiences.

In large part (comming from sombody who knows) kids espically around my age are @$$holes for one reason nobody slapped the $hit(litterly or figertavtly (sp) ) out of them when they were young and the parents to keep out of fights do everything for them. Do you know what happens when it comes time for a liscence the parents buy them a car the kid dosent like it and immedately starts looking for something different at this point 3 things can happen
1.) They reserach and find a car that they like and decide to buy it. If they pay for it usually they will take care to not crash ect. If mommy buys it the will take an off ramp at 120mph and drive into a tree.
2.) They build the car they want (me) The people who do this will have this car for a while if not for the rest of there life
3.) They go back to F&F and YOUTUBE to find a car and make mommy buy it for them and they do every stupid thing you could think of when there tallent/luck runs out there dead.

and i can tell you this kid has a decent head on his shoulders. :)

I think we should line all the kids up and smack them around a little bit, stress releiver for us and will prolly do them some good. :D

I can say this:

ive owned 3 neons - an SXT - and RT and my SRT

I wanted an SRT SOOO bad when I was about 18 or so - and I came VERY close to getting one on multiple occasions - Instead - I got my SXT

but looking back on it - im SO glad I could'nt get one b/c I know that it would have been totaled . ..

now Im sure there are smarted kids out there than what I was - but knowing the kids I know - theres only about one that I can think of that could reasonably handle an SRT

get on ebay and look at all the wrecked SRT's - I bet 85% of those were wrecked by someone under the age of 20 . . .

If sxt is payed off look at kelly blue book or run it by carmax to see what you can get for it. I know my neon I'd only get like $500.00 for it. Thats another story tho. :)

I remeber being 16 and I remeber what I did with a 81 chevy pickup with a 305 and why my dad wouldn't let me drop in the 350. That trunk being the tank that it was saved my ass more then once.

I also remeber the punshiment I put on my 93 cav drove on a broken lower A arm for like 3 months took forever to figure out what that scraping metal noise was. Not to mention the six sets of rotors, a fender, 4 tie rods, a battery, head gasket, driver's mirror, head light not the bulb. I wal-mart knew me by name cause I went thru tires.

An SRT can be a lot like a fire or a loaded gun. With the right person you can see some really neat and cool things. With the wrong person your on the eleven clock news.

You do have a point. It looks like one, it smells like one and it sure does taste like one!
But there's also 2.5RS's under the Impreza name :P

^^The biggest mistake that DCX made was leaving the "Neon" badge off the SRTs. None of this "I don't drive a Neon, I drive an SRT" stuff would have happened if Daimler hadn't been so ashamed of the Neon. You don't want to get me started on that subject. :x

Ya, I thought it was funny that the death of the neon was a publicly noted thing, similar to the final tauras rolling of the assembly line..

But the one thing we can all agree on...

No one gave a crap when they discontinued the Chevy Caviler...

Well, I sort-of forgot about this thread, hence the lack of replies from me. I appreciate the input, whether it was positive or not. Although I am 16, I have actually been driving for over a year. I got my permit in November of 2005, so I have been driving with my parents and 21+ friends for a bit. I'm aware its nowhere near the amount of experience that most of you have, but I feel pretty comfortable driving, and I am also pretty good at driving a stick (I practiced on my friend's 240SX). Although I may have worded my original post in the wrong way and made it sound like I plan on lots of street racing, that isn't really my intent. I wont lie though, if I did have an SRT-4 it would be hard not to race it a few times. There are other reasons that I want one other than speed. Aesthetically, they look much nicer than regular neons. Besides, don't tell me that when you all were in high school that you didn't want to have a nice car to show off in front of your friends.

I appreciate everyone's concern about street racing, but believe me, I am not nearly as daring as 99% of the people my age (or older for that matter). Even with a fast car, I probably would rarely race it on the street, if at all. Ironically, Ive a few stories from people on 2gn saying things to the effect of "Oh I was driving down the road the other day and I totally owned this Civic in a race", and nobody seemed to make a big deal of it.

As for the financial aspect, yes my parents did buy the neon. You are right by saying that they may not approve of trading it in for an SRT-4, so I may have to save up myself. I am also aware of the insurance costs, and if they are not willing to pay it then I am prepared to get a(nother) job. They paid around $12,000 for the SXT in late 2005. The bluebook private party value for it is around $11,000 right now (with 19k miles). I'm aware that you usually get nowhere near the KBB value, but I'm just stating it for reference.

it was one of those stupid questions...hands down.

Not to mention, if he's coming on here not knowing any of us and asking if he should get a car, i wonder what his friends have him do, if he listens to us...i'd be amazed that he isnt the bitch of his social circle.

honestly, i dont care what he does, it's just a waste of a car he's not ready for. But what do i know.
Element, I would recommend that you read my first post again. I asked two questions:
how much do you think I could get for [my sxt]?

and
Also, how much does a stock SRT-4 with relatively low mileage go for?
I fail to see what is so "stupid" about asking how much my car was worth and how much an SRT-4 is worth.

And what do you mean by this:
Not to mention, if he's coming on here not knowing any of us and asking if he should get a car, i wonder what his friends have him do, if he listens to us...i'd be amazed that he isnt the bitch of his social circle.
Could you please tell me where I asked if I should get an SRT-4? In my post, I already stated that I was interested in an SRT-4. I am definitely not "the bitch" of my social circle, and I am mature enough to make my own decisions. I simply asked the value of two cars, that is all. Most of the other users in this thread had relatively good input, while you just seem to be posting flames. Maybe you should have read Krackstar's post:

Wow, this reply is ridiculously long, but then again I am replying to 2 pages of posts.

Again, I appreciate all of the input. Thanks.

EDIT: One more thing. I find it very ironic that there have been so many "street racing is very dangerous, don't do it!" posts in regards to my question, yet 2gn has an entire forum dedicated to street racing, and it has more posts than most of the other forums.

ok buddy, sorry folks but i'm not going to be nice about this...you DID come in here asking, well more or less TELLING us that you were going to get an srt4. And we told you straight up it would be a waste of a nice car.

You already know what you're car is worth blue book, what we will pay for it and what a non enthusiast will pay for it is a completely different matter. We know what the car's worth to us, if someone is looking at it for reliable transportation, then you could get whatever you're asking for it.

As for buying the srt because you just think it looks good....i say you're full of shit.

Not too mention, you said in your last post that you'd like to impress and show off for you're friends...that's ironic, you said you didnt want to be flashy and stupid with it in that very same post.

If you ARE dead set on wrecking one of these cars, my suggestion would be buy it on you're own, it will prolly last you a couple more months than if mommy and daddy would buy it for you.

Also, that sxt you have, is more than likely in your parents name, so it's ultimately going to be there decision whether or not you get one, and if they just want to throw away money like that, they should just pick someone off of this board and buy them the damn car.

you have a lot to learn, try not taking advantage of your parents and have them buy you a car.

and if you do get one and decided to try and 'show off' for your friends, bring them all out my way with your car and i'll hand you your ass in front of them with my 2.0.

you're not mature enough for the car, i'm telling you that straight out. driving a car for a year doesnt give you the respect for automobiles you need to best understand the way they handle and drive and what to expect from it.

i'm done ranting now.

I've watched and read this whole thread and I think our young friend has come back and posted quite a mature response. If he has the money saved (or is going to save it) for an SRT and he's able to afford the insurance, let him buy it. If he wrecks it, he wrecks it. I'd be just as likely to wreck such a 'fine piece of automotive engineering', I think. I hardly think someone buying a car for the purpose of driving the car is a 'waste'. But, whatever. I'd say leave the kid alone but I'm not holding my breath for that one. Sure, I'd never have been allowed to have a 200+ horsepower car when I was 16, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna take that regret out on someone else just because I'm older than that now and I still can't afford one. Whatever, though.

Ok, just to answer his two questions, I will say this: You SXT, without knowing anything about it, if it is paid off (I think you said you had an 05???) and without know where you live, what options you have on your car, what the condition is of your car (honestly, not what you want it to be in), whether auto or manual, cd, tape, cruise? is worth in the range of 9-9500 dollars private party.

By the way, this all could have been answered yourslef by going to KBB.com and just following directions there  ;)

As for what you want, once again, you really have to look around - a great to place to start, once again, is KBB.com - you can look up paticular cars all over the US and search their prices, as well in your local area, but since you seem not to know about KBB, I will spoon feed you the answer  :D Typically, within 500 miles of me, I am showing several ranging in price from 12900-21000, so like I suggested, use the resources already there and you actually could have had your own question answered.

Wait a minute- that's one of the reasons why I bought my SRT. I didn't like the front clip on the '03+ Neons and preferred the styling on the SRTs. In my humble opinion, his reason is valid.

^^Agreed

I also wanted the SRT because it looked so much better than the regular neons...except the 02 r/t.

Also look at NADA.com for car values and what not.

As I stated before work your ass off if you want the car and you will live longer. I actually slowed down after I bought my SRT just because it cost me an arm and a leg and I don't want the insurance to go up.
