well, i doubt i will get this post the way i like it lol, but i hear some folks consider the srt-4 as a whole new animal, others say it is a beast inside a neon. POLL: is it the srt-4 neon, or it is the srt-4, period?

my vote is FOR it bieng a neon, just because of the body being mostly neon, and headlights tails interchangeable. so far, the votes say 100% neon. lets hope for more diversity here....

and now especially that the caliber srt-4 is coming out....our srt-4 will HAVE to be referred to as the neon srt-4

All Chrysler cars with body code 'PL' are Neons.
The SRT-4 carries body code 'PL'.
Therefore, the SRT-4 is a Neon.

Isn't a PT cruiser also on the PL platform? So, therefore a PT Cruiser is also a Neon, right?

j/p
if A=B, and B=C, then A=C
SRT4 = PL, PL=Neon, SRT4=Neon... yes?

A PT is based off the PL platform but carries the PT code so no it isn't a Neon and is a PT.

All the musclecars of days gone by had the same issues. IIRC you could get a 6 cyl automatic 'Cuda, Challanger, Dart, Camaro, Mustang and so on. If the basic body is the same, it's the same car to me. My '69 Z28 had multi leaf rear springs, a 12 bolt Posi rear end, 4 speed, gauges and 302 cu. in. engine (no, that's not a typo). My sister had a '68 Camaro, 6 cyl, 2 speed auto, monoleaf rear springs, 10 bolt open diff and a cheesy interior. Does anyone question if either was a Camaro?

Exactly. The PT Cruiser carries body code 'PT', which is where it gets its namesake. A couple of my relatives are full-time Chrysler mechanics and they've both commented on people saying that the PT Cruiser was based on the Neon because they have very little in common with eachother, body-wise.
You can't name cars by what they were 'based' on, because every single FWD car that Chrysler made from the mid 80's to the early 90's would be a 'K-car', haha. The Daytona (AG), Lebaron (H), Shadow/Sundance (P), New Yorker/Dynasty (AC), and a bunch of others were all based on the original 'K' platform (Aries/Reliant), but nonetheless, they are all different bodies with different body codes.

Didn't they outlaw those motors or something? Heh, nothing like a stock 60's small block in the 350+hp range.

The srt4 is a srt4, the neon is a neon, the sx2.0 is a sx2.0.
Taurus and the sable, the tempo and the topaz, talon and the laser. etc etc etc, blah blah blah.
This can be argued to death that they ar all the same car, but if the manufacturer decides to tweak the car a little and make a new name for it, then can't we all just call it by that and move on?
we all know that everything on a neon can bolt onto a srt, and vica versa, so why even question it. Same car, different concept, thus differnt name. GET OVER IT
I vote this thread be closed as this topic has already been previously beat to death
