weird backfire?

Hey...this might have been covered before with other people asking but to my particular question, i want a answer specific to me...haha. Anyways...
Example 1:
I was just getting back inside of my car from eating out with my girl and some friends, i started it up, sat for a bit and then reved it up a few times and 2 of about 3 times it would make a POP sound from under the hood/my muffler.
Example 2: Sometimes this also does this while driving down the street when i hit my gas to the floor.
I know ppl say " you could be running lean or rich or blah blah "
but the thing is...i have a 05 SXT and the only engine mod i have is a k&n CAI and vc. (nothing that i would think would truly put a great affect on a stock engine)
just curious...but could it be the crappy n1 "style" 4 inch outlet fart rocket i put on there stupidly when i first got the car ( i dont see how that is possible but just curious. )
all reasonable answers will help so please respond. i hate that damn noise it makes me seem like a damn ricer with a POS. and we all know neons are NOT POS.

I dunno man, not sure - I know today I had what sounded like a backfire out the CAI today, scared the pooey out of me.

Ah well, I also had spilled a little bit of oil on the heat shield of the exhaust head and down the side of the VC.. so...?

took it to dealership...they said i had to come in around 730 some weekday next week and leave it with them all day to figure the problem. ahahaha wtf?
and i said " well i have some buds that say to replace the plugs" and the guy instantly says...
"the plugs have absolutely NOTHING to do with any type of backfire"
bleh...

just to get this outta the way...
neons are known to "backfire" when theyre fitted with aftermarket exhausts. since a true backfire occurs thru the intake (hence the term), this condition is actually called afterburn, and is perfectly normal. The mixture left over from combustion ends up in the cat and exhaust, causing a burn, and popping or "backfiring" out the tail pipe. Lots of cars rumble and pop when their super silent stock mufflers are replaced, but neons and srts are notorious for it. Every single neon, no matter how old or new, will sound like this with a freeflowing exhaust. its completely normal.
If you already knew that and its not what youre hearing, then you might have a pretty serious problem.

thats most likely what it is. Happens most noticeable after a downshift, and will usually do it pretty loud when simply letting off the throttle. if youre hearing it while on the throttle or at idle, its probably not the same condition I spoke of above.

yeah always during downshift

considering the year of your car, id 99.9% guarantee that what youre hearing is afterburn and you have nothing to worry about.

You should hear it with open pipes and a turbo. Much cooler.

You can't make a comment like that and not provide proof

Are you getting the pre-built Magnaflow exhaust? Or having one made with the Camaro style muffler? I went the latter route and I love the way my exhaust sounds...Wanna hear it?

I love afterbun, the camaro I had before my neon was notorious for afterburn, especially with no cat and a flow-junk muffler...too bad it was a v6 auto

the popping from the muffler is completely different than the popping from your intake...you'd be a fool not to look into it more, it's not supposed to litterally shoot back out the intake...more damage than good will come from that, not to mention it did it before i even had an exhaust on my car...but do what you will...
