Help! Think i found a problem.. 56k warning

Post by optlo » Sat Feb 10, 2007 4:08 pm

Well.. recently my neon has had a slight hiccup.. well today while i shoveled the driveway, I started it up since I rarely drive it lately.. and it's getting worse. So I decided to check under the hood, pulled out these guys and two were soaked - and when i put the 2nd in from the left back in - it made a gurgle sound, not to mention it smelled funny before I pulled them out... can anyone tell me what is wrong?

From looking at the pictures, the spark plug tubes just don't look right, like they're not in all the way, that and it doesn't really look like they have tube seals in them, and if they do they aren't doing there job.

I'm sure it's oil and it looks like the tubes are out farther then they should be, I'm not sure how they go in though. I'll go look through my fsm.

Try taping them with a rubber mallet, you may have to remove the valve cover. Probably are going to want to replace your spark plugs as well, wires might be alright.

Scan from my fsm

If the tube isn't sealed, which it looks like it isn't, when oil is splashing around in the valves, keeping everything lubicrated, it can get into the tube and as they fill, I believe they can foul the plugs along with degrading the connection with the sprak plug, causing a weaker spark or no spark at all.
