Would it fit?

I'm thinking about picking up a spare motor, driving a ways to get it and the only one of my cars I trust to go the distance (about 7 hours away) is the Neon. Now the question is, could the motor fit in the trunk and if not that, the backseat? Just the block and head, none of the acc and pulleys

just the block and the head. i see no reason why they wouldnt fit. the neon has a pretty big trunk for its size.
might take a little shimmying to get it in because the opening isnt the greatest, or im sure it would fit in the back seat.
if someone proves me wrong i will be very surprised.

BRR drove 4 hours with a 2.0 block in his trunk that he sold to patriotblueneon at the NY 2gn.org meet.. so im pretty sure it will fit... even if you have to take the head off.

I think it'd be a very tight fit. I'd be more concered with the weight and instead rent a little trailer from UHaul for the day and use that to haul it. The possible damage getting it in and driving it hope to get it out doesnt' seem worth it.

Hmm...I do still have that trailer hitch...
Here's what Uhaul has

$10

$20

$10
I'm liking either of the last two, nice small trailers. Which one do you guys think?
Did I mention it's in Tronoto? Anyone know of any problems crossing the border with a trailer? I've never been "up north" before...

It'll fit, the challange is getting it in. There was a guy on NC that hauled his complete 2.4 in the back of his 4 door 1st gen. He may have had to remove the door (it was on a small pallet) but it fit.
Weight isn't the problem, it'll handle it fine, it's getting it in.

I hauled my car on a U-haul trasnport with the motor sitting on the floor where the back seat should have been and the tranny was in the trunk.

Just take the cushin for the back seat out and put down a peice of wood and use the child seat ankers to strap it down so it don't move. Just get a buddy to help you remove it from the car. I pulled mine in/out bymyself. all 165 pounds of me.

Motor fits fine in the back. I carried a 2.4 long block in the trunk of my Neon from NY to MA and I didn't even fold the back seats down. Just do yourself a favor and buy a big tarp and fold it so it's 4 or more layers thick. That puppy is gonna puke everywhere no matter how well the oil was drained.
Dave, I forget if you have a rear strut tower bar, but if you take that out, there will be more than enough room for that 2.0 long block.

Heh, Yup. He's giving me a good deal on it. I'd rather rebuild a spare then pull my motor and have all that downtime and and the chance of screwing it up.
He's on vaction right now, till the 25th I think. Then I'll need to find a time I can get up there. Heh, we can set up a time to have alittle photoshoot or something, Although I think I'll still have Opi's yellow hood. It'll get painted one of these days.
Heh, need to make sure to take my strut bar out before I drive up if It's going in the trunk.

The short block was not all that heavy

, and with the head off the motor, it sat right into a crate in my trunk with no problems what so ever....

I've got a 1.8" drop on Goldline springs on stock struts. No issues with a complete 2.4. Doesn't mean you do'nt need to be careful at least, but you won't bottom them out just driving normally.

If I can get the short block to fit in the silver car pictured above, im pretty sure you can get it into a neon

or just remove your passenger seat and put it on the floor? I ran a 4g63 for a friend that way and it was fine. Wrapped it up REALLY good with tarp then blankets.
