$720....

Well I went over to Movie Gallery to rent a flick and I pulled into the parking lot and killed it on accident. (Let up on the clutch really fast in 2nd) Well anyways I go in there to rent a movie and I come back out and turn the car on... Well tried to anyways. It wouldn't start. I had recently put a brand new battery in it two weeks ago and had the AC/Powersteering belt and the Alternator belt replaced the other day. I checked my plugs and I noticed cylinder number 1 was drenched in oil and oil was on top of my valve cover around cylinder number one. All the other plugs seemed dry. I kept trying to crank it, and this man was bringing his groceries in to his van and asked me if I needed a jump, and I said might as well try. So we hooked everything up and the car still wouldn't start. So that takes out the alternator... My 02 sensors are burned out, if that matters... So I do have a check engine light... What can I do to get this fixed so I can start it and run it? The car is turning over and everything and I smell fuel. I did pump the gas a couple times so...ughhh I don't know, I am drawing a blank.. Should I get spark plugs for it? Coilpack? Wires?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Update:
Update:
Got new plugs and wires, installed them.. Didn't do anything. I noticed on the coil pack on the output for cylinder number 3 its rusted and black..So I am guessing that is fried. Off to get a new coil pack for $80.... Hopefully this solves the problem.

It has the MLS headgasket that was put on 40k ago, So the seller told me... All the oil is coming from is cylinder number 2...very bad.

I don't understand the turn key on and off thingy...
I have no idea where the ECU is located... but on another note, the dude had a remote start put on it... So say I tap the brake twice on accident, a horn will go off with this little speaker and that enalbes it, so when I turn off my car and pull key out it will still be running, so I have to press the brake and that disables it and turns vehicle off. Its a PITA I need to get rid of it.

I noticed when I am shifting sometimes the Brake light comes on too and my lights dim...WTH...

I posted this on 1gn.org, I am getting help there, I just want to post it everywhere to get ideas... :)

Do you have the tools and or comfort level to do a compression test?

If it has spark, fuel and compression, it should start.

Confirm the first two 100% before you go any further and then try a comp. test.

I am having it towed. :(

Well guess what... Turns out nothing is wrong with it supposedly. They towed it and everything, and when they brought it in to the shop, they started it up, and it was fine. :? They ran the OBD scanner and everything and I guess everything was fine..??? I noticed on my way home, I heard this hissing sound coming from the passenger side. It would "hiss" then stop, "hiss" then stop. I remember reading somewhere that it could be the coolant pressure cap? I just had a flush and fill a couple weeks ago, and it has been making that sound even before I had the coolant flush and fill... Ahhh this sucks, I am afraid to drive it to work tonight. I noticed the check engine light was off, so they must of unhooked and rehooked the battery.. Maybe thats all I needed to do.. Which terminal do you unhook first, the negative one right? Just a quick question.

Cleasing the CEL that way is only a temp fix. It can come back on in 5 minuites or it could be 5 weeks. Erally either one....but Id do the neg side.

I am expecting it to come on.... I am just trying to figure out what this damn hissing noise is coming from... I need to get new plug seals too.

Well guess what... I drove the car to work today and I was coming up to a busy intersection pretty far away and the RPM's dropped and it died. Wouldn't start back up, so I had it towed...again. Now its at some shop about 15 miles from home and to top it all off it was hailing outside. So they are gonna check it out tomorrow...

You think a new ECU would fix it? So far I have had only bad expierences with the 1st gens. j/p (I am actually growing attached to it throw this ass process) This car had a remote start on it, that was put on by the previous owner... The wiring was done really shitty and its easy spliced to the coil pack connector thingy. I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I was told that it might be the fuel pump? Ahhh who knows...shit.
So far I have been told to do one of the following.
-Get a new ECU
-New t-stat
-New fuel pump

well as far as oil all over #1 cylinder....pretty normal....oil likes to travel accross the bottom of the intake manifold and crawl up the wall into the far cylinder....aka #1 cylinder.... mine are all clean sept the #1 also so i got a catch can and it should clear up over time...if this bothers you id say do the same... cant say for sure wat could be wrong with your car tho....sometimes if you mess with ur battery u forget to tighten it back up all the way....tightin it all the way up ...o and make sure theres no battery acid build up on there....this could very well b your prob... if its not tight all the way it sometimes wont start then u slap it and it will start lol....just clean and tightin that cus its free wont hurt to try...

The fuel pump is bad.
$720 something.

$350 fuel pump
$45 for the fuel filter
$66 for the tow and the rest is for labor......

Yeah!!! Month wages down the drain! w00t w00t.

This sucks.

I wonder what other kinds of surprises I am gonna get.

ack - that sucks, now get it fixed up and running!!! You know, you could probably find all this stuff online, or at least upgrade to aftermarket performance parts?? Sorry for all the problemos!

oh wow. i guarantee you can get a walbro or something of that extent for much cheaper and DIY! Even without a decent mechanic wont charge you 500 for labor.

i'd have whoever is working on your car tear that piece of ass remote starter off.. just incase its causing problems..

by kc2005ptgt
^^^Same here, that is what I forgot to put in there... remove the remote start and tape up all your wires and tuck em away really nice and neat like. Then go up and down each wire and look for cracks, rips, etc and make sure all is GUT. :D

They said they are using an aftermarket fuel pump..... But remember guys, my car is dead at this shop, I really don't want to tow it to another place.... I know I am getting ripped but you know what, I am tired of screwing around with it. I already gave the okay, and as for tearing that damn remote starter out, I really don't know where to start.... when it comes to electrical shit I freak out. I have the manual for it though... So I will check it out and take pictures I put up here if I have questions. I think my dreams of the SRT-4 are fading away now.

You know a fuel pump should cost like $130, right? You can do it yourself in a couple hours if you don't know what you're doing, or an hour if you do.

shoulda just bought the SRT and learned on that.... its not that hard to learn.....

This sucks.
I was stuck in a busy ass intersection and had to have my car removed in 15-20 minutes or I would get a flippin ticket. So the tow truck guy came, put it on his flat bed, and I didn't want him to drive back to my house with it which would cost a big chunk of change, since I was around 18 or so miles from home. He would of then procedded to drop it off at my house and I would have no clue whats wrong with it. Well anyways, there was a huge storm coming in and when we finally dropped it off it started to hail outside with lightning. I told him to drop it off at the nearest auto place and that he did. I am upset with the other place I took it to, and they didn't notice the fuel pump was out... It could of been anything, my car will run after this... But something else could go wrong... So thats why someone is already interested in buying it this weekend. (I have put it up for sale on craigslist a week ago) If he doesn't buy it, thats fine. I bought the car for $1500 and have already put around $1230 into it after the $720 bill I am gonna be payin tomorrow.

I missed work that day too... I never had a car quit on me before, well the exception of a couple days ago at the movie place..But never in the middle of an intersection... It got me off guard, and I didn't think. I was just thinking aobut getting my car out of the way and not thinking where to get it towed to. I will atleast be putting in the new valve seals I got.

I was told on 1gn.org that the fuel pump comes with the fuel filter already on it, so they might be screwing me over some money... I also found out these places buy the parts cheap then mark them up to MSRP... He continued to tell me how fuel pumps for Dakotas are $800... I am gonna do some researching tonight.

There are 2 filter on most car a sock that goes over the pickup on the pump to block out fine dirt and a larger one up stream. The filter for a DOHC is $19.46 from autozone and a pump is $160

Well I called up CarQuest. (Very reliable people, and honest) They said that the list* price for a fuel pump was $500-$600. So they said atleast I didn't have to pay list for it.

get a walbro fuel pump for half the money and have them put that in, there's not too many aftermarket fuel pumps available. and if they're charging you 350 bucks for that pump...i'd call up a friend and have him help you push the damn thing home.
