air horn wiring
I am looking at getting an air horn soon. Its the same one JRM868s has. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=40134
I want to hook it up so that it will go off when I press the horn button. I also want the stock horn to go off at the same time so in the event I run out of air or something happens, I still have some horn.
Any suggestions as to how I should hook it up? I tried to read the product manual, but the computer I'm on right now doesn't have adobe reader. And its gonna take 20+ min to get it on there.
afterthought: i did a search for the Hella Supertones. I found a Hella product called the compact trumpet: http://www.safedrives.com/proddetail.as ... 104&cat=60
it is 25dB's less than the air horn I'm currently looking at and it might be an easier install. I'm a little worried that the 135dB that the air horn puts out would be way too loud and might get some people really, really pissed at me, granted if I honk at them they deserved it.
I also searched harbor freight for other kinds of horns and came up with this: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=44759
Its $10 and puts out 130dB.
So I guess in addition to my above question. How loud is to loud? and How many dB is the stock horn? and Isn't every dB increase doubles the loudness?
I know this is a big ol mess, but hopefully it is understandable. Im going to go and read it to see how it sounds and Ill edit it if I get lost.
edit: I think its understandable.

ok I have onves just like teh "12V SUPER-LOUD AIR HORN" the top link you have there.. adn as far as having both hooked up I dont. You just wired the air conmpressor to the horn wires and take out the stock horn...
you will not "run out of air" these little compressors are great I have held the horn for over a minute straight and np with air at all...
Thye are really loud too !!!!
The key to hooking them up is make sure the tubing from the compressor to the horns is as short as possible so that the horns are as responcive as can be!!
I will try and post installed pics after my work...
but to give you an idea of location look closly at my front grill they are facing downward so no water gets in

I will show more later.

excellant, thanks for the pic and up coming pics.
it would be nice to just run to the harbor freight store and pick it up, rather than shipping it.
i could probably just T into the horn wiring and then both will work. if you could give a rough schematic of how it would work i would greatly appreciate it. or even a pic of how its wired.
thanks

if your worried about it being too loud, wire it up seperatly to a momentary switch and keep the horns out of sight, so A: you can choose what horn you want to use, depending on mood, and B: if for some odd reason you get hassled by cops or something, you can deny, and show them your reg horn... lol
