Jerking at low rpms....???

Post by Silver2gn4me » Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:35 am

I think my tranny mounts need to be replaced. Will they cause my car to jerk when I let off the gas at 1800 to 2500 rpms?? It is really anoying. It does it in any gear too. I dnot know if "jerking"is the right word but it jumps back and forth when I let off. Let me know what ya think..

do you let off the gas completely, i take it? that will cause it in and of itself to jerk, at least my car does regardless... I guess yours is really bad? I see you have prothanes, but I take it not motor mount inserts, right?

It does it when I barely let off. I have the street MM inserts. But no tranny inserts.

this I do not know, plus I am not sure if we have the same issue - mine will jerk, but it is because I am running at high(er) rpms in whatever gear, usually 1st-3rd at 3k+ rpms, and when I let off, it jerks forward a bit, but I guess that would be expected so I am no help :(

Sorry!!

"Jerking" at low rpm and low throttle position is quite normal. It is caused by engine braking and overrun kicking it at low rpm. A very stiff tranny mout may help some, but that's not really the source of you problem. That's just how the PCM is programmed.

If the jerking is realy bad, I would just throw it out of gear until I was ready to accelerate again.

A smaller throttle body would help eliminate the "jerking", but most people would rather have a little jerking than a tiny TB.

jerking at low rpm is because your at a coast and the power from the car bumps the car forward then it hits the limit of your mounts and bounces back again increasing each bump ...itcan get pretty violent...never been in a fwd stick that didnt do it....just get on the gas a lil and it goes away as im sure youver noticed...
IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT...

Cool. So I should upgrade the tranny mounts and that will help a bit?? I notice that the more miles I get on a car it doest it. Same thing in my other 2gn. I bought it new and before it got totaled it had about 60k on it and it did the same thing as my current 2gn. That is why I think it could be worn out tranny mounts.

Push the clutch in next time. Sometimes the at lower speeds you'll have to feather the clutch or coast.

mine does this too. I live in a housing area with a 15mph speed limit so if I cruise thru in 2nd sometimes it will start that jerking and get more violent if I don;t let off or accelerate...I just shift into third and idle and that puts me at a nice smooth 15mph...
