Volt wire question

I need help finding the wire with the most accurate voltage reading for my volt gauge. It seems to me as if all the wiring in the fuse box is regulated to ~13.8 volts as I checked them all with a multimeter. The wire I need to tap into also needs to be a switched source with the ignition. No matter if the battery is at 14.5 or 14.2 etc, the volts in the car remain a constant ~13.8V.

hook the voltmeter up to the deck power and ground wires like i did, works fine, and no, there is no regulator keeping stuff at 13.8, mine is all over the place.. 12.8 when its off, and 13.8-14.2 when its idleing... and I've got an OBX UDP as well.. shows how little of an effect they make on the charge cycle...lol.

If you splice into the power going to your deck, or cigarette lighter, you will be good to go.. if your gauge isn't reading the fluxuations in voltage hooked up like this, then the gauge is no good.. unless you by accident hooked the illumination wires to the power signal wire, and that would make sense if it wasn't reading any other voltages..

Even my cig lighter plug will read about .5V less than actual battery voltage. I tested a lot of connections and they are all lower in the car. Must be a lot of resistance in the wires or something... The gauge fluctuates with changes, even my stereo system pounding shows it dropping a lil bit on bass notes.
