ok so i did an oil change today, but before i did it i put that engine flush made by CRC in my car and it says to run it at idle for 5 mins. so i do that, then i drain my oil and holy crap, a few clumps of oil sludge build up and crap came out...most def glad that crap is out, put a pure one oil filter on and castrol syntec in that motha and shut the hood. lol. my car has like 68k on it, 02 sxt.....some of you guys with higher mileage should try it and see what comes out but let it idle for more than 5 mins so it can break it down small enough to flow out the drain hole lol. and let your oil drain for like 20-30 mins. to get allllll that engine flush out. lol.

It may be good to get all that old gunk out, but it is also dangerous if you do it on a high mileage motor that never used synthetic from early on. It has a chance of cloging up small oil lines, which can result in much worse damage. Run synthetic early on and don't worry about the flushes.

well i had been doing a synthetic blend for a good while now, and i had enough money to get full synthetic lol and im gonna stick with it from now on....but how would it clog up the oil passages?...pretty much all automotive oil is compatible with any oil.

The flushes like Amsoil and CRC etc.... are solvent based and can aggressively clean an engine. The problem arises when you either plug a filter or dislodge a large piece that then blocks a passage before it gets dissolved starving an engine of needed oil flow.

Now that being said their is a product called AutoRX that is much less harsh and slower acting. Some heavily carboned up engines will show very slow progress on low flow areas. Another thing that gets after it is Redline due to the high ester content.

I would have to recommend short interval oil change at this point due to the flush and lots of gunk. So for the next 2 Oil Changes keep it at 1500 miles then return to 5000 miles for synthetics. Actually you could easily go longer once clean.

i swithced to synthetic at 100k. and i work at a parts store, 68k is fine to switch over just make sure you stick with it. and yea, if you had a lot of actual clumps comming out i would've probably thrown a cheap filter and cheap oil in, let it idle for 5-10 minutes then drained it out again. that synthetic oil isnt cheap, so i wouldnt spent $30-40 just for a quick 5 minute flush.

you dont have to stick with a synthetic oil after you start with it if you dont want to. that is a common myth.

it wasnt alot that came out it was just a few small clumps of build up, so im not worried about it, and i just dumped oil in it and let it run out, and nothing else came out so i should be good. if not, im suing for billions and billions....besides like 5 hours after i changed it a drove from lexingtion, sc to nashville, tn to go back to school lol. sneaky bastard me.

I am curious about this CRC, AutoRX. My mom has a 87 Chrysler Fifth Avenue with 56k miles. Everytime she gets her oil changed somewhere they always mention something about it being "sludged" up and recommend to clean it out, probably with one of those additives that is in discussion. Would this be a good thing to do?

Why can't they just do that service that THEY recommended?
