I have been very happy with Yokohama.
On my Monte SS I have Yoko Avid S/T's. Great all around tire. Gripped well, wet and dry. Cheap. They stood up to a few burnouts and they still had pretty good life left on them when I parked it.
On my Neon I have Yoko Avid TRZ's. Another great all around tire. Good grip, wet and dry, and cheap. $47/tire from tire rack. Total after shipping was ~$250 then there was mounting and balanceing, so for ~$300 I had a new set of tires. I currently have 30000 miles on them, and I am fully expecting them to last >75000 miles
Yokohama also has other tires in the Avid series. If you can find a size that you like in Yokohama's line up, I doubt you will be disappointed.

I just got some Kumho Solus KH16's, cost me around 270 to put 'em on my car and from the reviews on tire rack they are great tires.

I have the BFGoodrich gForce Sport 195/55R15 on my car for spring/summer/fall and they are awesome. The wet traction is only so-so, but the dry traction is incredible. Matter of fact, they're probably going on my car this weekend if I have time.

I would step up to a 205/55/15. They will look/handle much better, but may hurt your MPG. There's not too many options in the stock size. 205/50 would be less expensive, but >1/2" lower.

I have Falken Zeix ZE512 in 205/55/15's and they were so good I bought some for my wife (different size)... but the wet traction is great and this winter they worked better than the Michellin Harmony's I had on there before.
