I would like to see pics of rear bumpers w/ aftermarket mufflers...

I don't like the looks of the sideways thing. I know it's been like that since 1G, but I'd like to see setups with standard-positioned muffers, dual or otherwise.

I found this picture, Godknows where, I can't remember, but I take it this is the R/T exhaust?

I have an '00 so no exhaust reliefs... whatever I do has to clear the bottom. Which won't be a big deal. I suppose I need to get my lazy ass underneat this car this afternoon.

The R/T system is about as good as you will get flow/power wise, but you asked about sound. My personal pick is Nothing(you have a way of getting out of the tickets, not me well if it was a lady cop and well never mind  ) or the sock exhaust with a cherry bomb (glasspack) in place of the stock muffler and throw a tip of your choice on there vala $40 great sounding exhaust.

Well here's what I had:

Image

SRT cat back with a 2.5x29.5" glass pack welded in.

This is what I installed just a short while ago:

Image

Image

Vibrant axle back. They had their first ever factory warehouse sale so I picked one up on the cheap. I need the extra sound deadening because the cops in this area are going super anal on noise. Anything that sounds "too loud" are getting tickets, and if you're lucky you get pulled aside for an entire vehicle safety. I left the glass pack in the tunnel and damn is this combo quiet, I think it's quieter than stock  Honestly I almost miss the noise the SRT made :(

And this is what pisses me off about it:

Image

I raised it up a bit, but I think I'm going to be doing some cutting and welding in the future to get the look I want.

I have heard just what you said you are going to fix about vibrant before, sits REALLY low... plus, it is really wide, I assume the cutting you mean includes all that?

Looks purrty, and it is also 2.25", yes?

Yeah 2.25", direct bolt on for 01 ups. I'm probably going to hack it up and re-weld it so it sits like the SRT did, up more and the tips more horizontal. The wide doesn't bother me as much as the low does. That side shot makes it look like crap. Kinda bothers me actually.

ya i like the sound of the vibrant but i would lose my mind with the way it looks...i cant stand it...the way it looks overpowers the sound, even if it had the best sound in the world it wouldnt make up for the way it looks haha, its meant for a body kit application.

I think what I bought is the mopar, it has a single exit tailpipe. I got it cheap so I may just use it as a jig to make my own 3" system w/ some kind of dual outlets.

Yes, I said 3". Keep in mind I plan to be boosted. I'm not wheat ;)

But I'd love more of you with earlier 2G cars to post pics of your rearview, and of the exhaust system out of the car if you took it (like above).

FLOWMASTER FLOWMASTER FLOWMASTER.....am i the only one on this forum thats runnin flowmaster?.... havent seen a video yet to meet flowmasters "badassness" ... but it seems we all love wats on our cars so... the particular flowmaster im talkin about is the flowmaster racing series...its a single chamber muffler about 8-10 inches long id say.... gives a very nice back pressure sound ...and since mines straight pipe into the muffler added with a header its pretty dam loud...and also a good thing about flowmaster is the strength of ot... u take a flowmaster muffler and punch it.... ur gunna hurt ur hand not the muffler...take one of those other shiny thin metaled mufflers... dent it very easily.. someone else try this setup :banghead:

thats definetly a Magnaflow. I love magnaflow, I have the trubendz mangaflow 2.25" with a magnaflow high flow cat on my car now, its the exact same only i didnt get it with that resonater. Its not overly loud and its got a great sound to it.

Flowmasters are ok, but the only problem is I dont believe they make a catback for the 2nd gen neon. meaning you have to custom fit a muffler in there. IDK, i'm partial to magnaflow, dont get me wrong a flowmaster original 40 series will sound great on a a v8 stang or camaro. I just think that magnaflow sounds better all together, no matter what its on. But its all opinion. I'll be dumping mine in the near future anyway to go custom 3" since i'm boosted now.

I posted this in another thread but really it should be included here.

Kaminari has an axle-back setup, it's not cheap but it looks pretty sweet:

Kaminari Quiet Power

http://www.kaminari.com/products/neonexhaust.htm

And it looks like for 00-01 it would look especially good with our bumpers, since we don't have exhaust cutouts.

Edit: You know, I bet someone could weld up some piping to do the same thing, even pick different, slicker looking tips, etc. Hmmm.... :-k

Hahaha you know, I was talking with my roommate about that, and she thinks we should invest in a mig or tig and start churning out some things :P

Looks to me like it's just a Y-pipe, a U-bend, and 90-deg, welded up.

Speaking of which, would you SRT/4 guys be interested in a 3" exhaust? I know 3" is too big for nonturbo peeps, but it's perfect for a 2 Liter turbocharged engine with an upgraded turbo.

i or any relatively skilled welder could do those pipes but... u need to buy the muffler the tips and ...in my case i have a bender but ...u still gotta buy the pipe .... prolly be best to just buy it and weld on different tips that u like....... holy crap... i take that back...just saw the price on it... ya u can make it for alot less ....wont sound like a flowmaster tho........unless.... u made one with a flowmaster muffler!!....

Well, my exhaust should arrive today.. still not sure WHICH it is! :P Looks rather plain from the pictures.

It's just temporary, anyways. The more I see the Perrin 3", the more I think that is what I want when I'm b00sted.
