Oil leak
On a full dip stick it goes down to the halfway mark every 1,500 miles.
I thought it was burning it cause I see no visable leaks nor smoke out the tail pipe.
Well I was under the car and looked at the oil filter it had crud on it but at the base I could see oil that wasn't gunked up and looked clean. I wipe everything down and going to check again in the morning. But what could cause a leak from the filter area. The fliter is more then hand tight I know that but I think there is a seal somewhere near the filter could that be leaking?

just out of curiosity, what oil are you using?
This happened to me when I used Mobile 1... then I switched to RedLine and it stopped happening.

check your oil filter, check the gasket on your oil filter, at my work sence spring break weve had about 3 cars come in with blown motors because whoever chaged there oil double gasketed there oil filter. when you take off your oil filter check to see if there is 1 gasket or 2 stuck together,

yes FTL... it leaks slowly but it will eventually leak all out, the people who come in are normally woman or people who dont check there oil often so they want us to do it for them so if it was to leak out all the way they wouldnt notice. you wont see puddles under your car because theres no pressure in your oil system when the cars off.

i think BRR is on the right track with this one.
you would know if it was double gasketed, they dont just leak, they spew oil everywhere. you would have one hell of a mess.

no it dosent spew out, its a leak, yes it can spew but on some cars there oil filters are bigger and smaller, we had a old toyota come in last week when it got there it only leaked when the car was on, it was low, she had a semi big filter, im assuming filter sizes has to do with it because the ones that blew there motors came in within 24 hours, well more like towed in but they all had small filters/

My bet is on either the oil filter adapter gasket, or on the actual oil pump. My oil pump leaks, and gets that whole area of the pan and filter oily. I'm not too worried about it, because I'll be rebuilding the bottom end, but if I wasn't, I'd be getting a new oil pump.BlackRoseRacing wrote:could also be the cam seal behind the pulley, there known to walk out and there is a TSB retainer to hold them in. well 100 miles later filter still clean as a whistle.
And I have no oily mess that i can find or see. Unless its behind the header and being burned off.
I'll take it up to my cusions shop next week see if he can see anything. Hate to take it there cause even though we family he still charges cause ya got to make a living.
