well i wish i had an SRT as well, but i do see that i can get the same thing outa my car for a whole lot less, and then put the SRT kit on my car and boom there I have it...thats just me though.Opi wrote:-Insurance wont go up. If not, then I'm going to get the lip on, finish the body work, and call it a day. Stop modding, and start saving. Fuck it, why sould I keep wishing I had a SRT, when I can just get off of my lazy ass and GET one???!!!
I may be making one VERY huge decesion....

Holy ballsacks, buddy…You win the Chris award for EII (Excellence In Indecisiveness)! Do what makes you happy, that is really all it boils down to. I will tell you this however; if you do buy an SRT-4 I know that you won’t leave it alone, no matter how much you say you won’t.
For me, nothing makes me happier than telling people that my car is just a lil ole neon, winning trophies at shows, cruising around in my car on a nice summer day, and working on it. I love my car to death and I’ll probably take it to the grave. People always ask me why I spend so much money on my car (be it all the engine work or appearance wise) and my response is always the same…because that is what I enjoy doing. Well, not rly the whole spending part but that just comes hand-in-hand with modifying, which makes me happy.
So, if the SXT ‘floats your boat’ then keep it. If a SRT will make you happier, then by all means do what you need to do to be in the driver’s seat. I would suggest, however, that you look past your temporary woes with the SXT when making this decision. I get frustrated with my car a lot, esp. during the winter months of modding. But, it’s that first show out or first cruise after everything is all done that really makes it all worth while.
Just my 1.25 cents worth…
.Chris

Yea, i was talking about me being the most indecisive person in this world. I rock like that.
*shrugs* I'll do what fate has me do. This is the same thought I had last Novemeber of questioning why the HELL I was making a show car. I miss owning a newer car I can take where ever the hell I want to, and drive it whenever the hell I want to.
And in terms of my temporary woes... I'm actually over all that right now. I mean shit, at this point, I'm just going to work to sell my air ride... and if I don't, then I don't. Simple as that. I'll throw my lip kit on, get my rims done, and roll around all happy like.
Shit happens, ya kno?

When I was shopping for an extra car I found that insurance for my son who is 16 was only $20 more a month for a SRT than the 05 SXT that we bought. I would have bought a SRT in a heart beat but it's not a good idea for a 16 year old who just got their license.
In your case I would sell the SXT and buy a SRT.

After thinking about it, I voted in favor of keeping your car. Dude, your car looks sweet...
Look, I love the SRT/4. I was so glad when I saw the concept... a return to turbos for Chrysler! The Neon was the obvious choice platform, too... so I also almost bought one.
And I'm glad that I didn't! If I had one, yes I'd enjoy it tremendously, but since I do not, I'm happier with the opportunity to make something distinct. With an SRT/4 it's pretty much done for you. Sure you can turn up the boost, at a CF hood, and a few other goodies like wheels, but it's still pretty much the same.
To get a non-SRT Neon up to par, you have to customize. I don't just mean the engine, but even the looks...
YOUR car looks as slick or slicker than an SRT/4 IMO. So all you need to do now is make it fast. Which is the other thing... it'll be a WHOLE lot cheaper than buying an SRT/4. Also better on insurance!
I say keep the car. It looks great. Swap in an SRT engine/trans. Instant "zoom-zoom!" as Mazda says.

Now you know I could handle that, however, by the time I get my car done every spring I am just ready to relax throughout the show season and not do anything too involved. That obviously wouldn’t include a whole SRT swap, haha. Honestly, at this point I would just put everything up for sale. As I was telling you earlier, it seems like you really want to get rid of the Neon, so go for it. Get all the stock parts back on and sell every last aftermarket piece you have sitting around. That will help you out a ton financially. Then when you get rid of all that stuff you can look at selling the Neon and begin checking out the local used SRT market.Opi wrote:Unless there is someone on here that can throw a SRT engine into my car... it's getting sold

I do like your car but the fact that you have done verry little on the motor makes it a real easy choice to sell it.
But what I would do is take all the mods off drive it around stock for a while to injoy it well you save money and then get the SRT and then put all the parts on the SRT. That way you get the best of both, an SRT and all the mods you picked out for your perfect car.
I wish I hadn't goten rid of my SXT. I miss it alot. I traded it in for a WRX thinking that a wrx was enough of a step up that I wouldn't miss the SXT. only to have to trade that in a month later. So in the end I lost twice.
I looked for an SRT when I got the WRX but couldn't find one. But after driving a WRX the choice was easy. What ever you do don't drive an SRT.

I don't understand are you saying the WRX is better or is it worse than an SRT?
I only wish the SRT had an AWD option. What is it with Chrysler turbo cars never getting AWD? Damn you DaimlerChrysler, and Damned you ChryslerCorp and Lee I.!

Josh, I don't want you to do anything that would get you in over your head financially but, if you want a decent SRT, you had better move quickly before they are all beaten to death). At the rate that things are going, there will be few SRTs around in the future.

I know that this doesn't help you much but my two cents.

I feel your pain in not knowing anyone to do a swap for ya, that's a HUGE consideration in my book because I'd want it done right the first time. And it's not just the motor to consider either, I don't think I'd want a bagged turbo Neon. Somehow those two don't go together for me very well, kinda like a fake boobs on a fat girl (WTF?!)

Oversteer is when you hit the wall with the back of the car. Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car.
Horsepower is how fast you're going when you hit the wall, and torque is how far you drag the wall with you.

SXT SLEEPER with stock bumpers/lip kit FTMFW. cheap insurance is nice. you already have the SRT disc brakes, right? get some seats, and let'er eat.
All you'd be payin for with an SRT is the motor and the name, since you said you'd put coilovers on it. you already have the body, just snag a long block/trans/exhaust/computer/etc (lol) somewhere and have a local auto tech "throw" it in.
Just my .02 (and what i'll be doing to mine in a year or so).

Just keep this car and have a cool cruiser! Think about it, if you're going fast, nobody can see your body mods! Go slow like a real Neon, and even while you're driving, you can see all the mods you've made!
