How to safely remove sideskirts?

Post by soccerdanno » Mon May 21, 2007 8:34 am

Hi everyone,

Just as the title says, I want to know how to safely remove my R/T sideskirts. There are two allen screws on each one, and some black plastic plugs holding them on to the body of the car. I can get the allen screws off just fine, but I don't know if I should just crank on the plugs to pull them out. I dont want to damage anything.

Anyone have some advice?

What can I expect from the finish of the paint under the sideskirts?

Thank you.

The black "plugs" are just barbed pieces that slide into hole drilled into the rocker panel. There are also barbed plastic pieces the support the upper part of the skirt. When I removed mine from my wrecked R/T I just undid the screws on the ends, pulled the plugs that are on the very bottom, and the started prying from the top at one end to remove the plugs at the top of of the skirts, which have a hidden, blind design to them.

The paint under is finished, but you will have a dozen or so holes in the rocker panel.

Thanks for the reply 03blackrt. I appreciate the guidance.

Did you just pop the barbed pieces of plastic off with a flathead screw driver?

Was the finished paint under the side skirts bubbled at all? The paint under my spoiler, when I removed it, was bubbles some and that is what I'm worried about.

I used a wire cutter/ side cutter to get under the black botton thingies. The paint was not bubbled, this was in January on my '03 R/T. I just used my fingers to pry the top part up.

EDIT: the wheel liner integrated splash gaurd thing under the front part of the skirt will also be cut from the factory
