torque wrench

Post by Wenuden » Fri May 25, 2007 7:03 pm

since i'm too cheap to buy an FSM, and havn't gotten a hay(n?)s manual for my car since i started working on it myself, anyone know what the highest torque setting i will need is? I checked out harbor freight yesterday, and it looks like i'll need at least 2 wrenches to be able to properly torque all the bolts i'm going to be taking off soon. gonna be doing alot of suspension work, and maybe a DOHC head swap if i can get everything figured out. (if not DOHC, at least a new cam/springs/retainers).

Diablo), I'm sure you know. I should have just PM'd you LOL. (Mr. Harbor Freight himself)

If you can just buy a 1/2" and 3/8" torque wrenches that way you should be covered.

on another note, why do a dohc head swap, just get a magnum head and intake manifold and call it a day. there is a few other misc. things that go along with that swap, but nothing major and its been done a lot.

Most I've had to torque to so far is 150 ft*lbs on the lower control arm rear mounting bolt. Most 1/2" torque wrenches go to about 250 ft*lbs so you're covered in that respect. Don't normally go beyond that with automotive.

How to fix your car:
1. Buy a Haynes manual
2. Read Haynes maual
3. Read and search appropriate threads, trust us, it's been covered before
4. Fix car
5. Consume beer of job well done
