Is this normal?

Post by aperson » Mon May 28, 2007 9:05 pm

My car was from a junkyard, it has steered hard from day one. I have wider tires on it. 205 55 15, but it did this even in the winter before it was fixed when it had 3 bald tires and a donut on the front left. Now when its a really warm day and my car's been sitting outside in the school parking lot it will steer almost normal, but by the time I get home its back to being hard. It's not as bad as without the engine running, but about halfway between. Is my rack dying, or is my pump going out? Is it just the tires? Any ideas would help immensely, thanks in advance.

Does it make any noises?

Usually when its hard to steer the pump is going out.

sound like your power steering, I dont think your tires would cause that.

No noises at all, just hard to turn, when I got it it was hit on the right front. Could it be the rack? about how much for a pump? Rack? would I be better off checking other things first? the belt seems tight, I checked it before I put it on the road, but I'll check it again tonight. Thanks
