Oil Pan Bolt question

Post by danman132x » Wed May 30, 2007 12:16 pm

My oil pan bolt does not have any rubber on it. It's just metal on metal contact. Is this normal? In the picture by soccerdanno, you can see the rubber piece around the bolt that I'm talking about

I have done 3 oil changes so far with no problems though.

My '00 SE Neon does not have the rubber grommet, and my '03 R/T Neon does. I think they were both made at the same plant (Belvedere, IL) so I don't really know why there would be a difference.

*shrugs*

I wouldn't worry at all about it.

I actually picked up a new drain plug at Advanced Auto and it has a rubber grommet around it.

I wish my oil filter was like that...

there are a couple different plugs, the one that is in that picture and one that has a rubber gasket type under the flange.

no matter what you should have some form of seal there.

You can pick up oil plug grommets from most auto part stores for a few bucks a pair.
