Hi there. Few months ago, I made the thread about the fuse that kept blew up everytime i replaced new fuse. Someone mentioned that wire might touch somewhere, and later I found my multifunction switch wires burned.

I bought OEM wires for multifunction switch and fixed it. Its successful.


No more fuse blew up (for brake light)

Recently a week ago, it came back again. I checked wires and it looks fine. Do you think I supposed replace multifunction switch too? Or maybe fuses box? Thanks for your time.

i just fixed a problem with my brake light fuse blowing. the clutch peddle had striped the wires going to the brake light switch under the dash (where the brake pedel is). this would cause the fuse to blow every time the cutch was depressed. i just wraped more tape around the striped wire and it now workes again. might help. good luck.

When I burnt up the connection that went to the multi-switch I had to replace the connector and the switch itself. I found all of my parts in a junk yard so it was really cheap.

I would suggest replacing it before you melt the wires again. If that doesn't fix the problem then your car is worse off than mine was.

Wires don't just melt so something caused it. Probably the switch was the root cause not the wires so fixing the wires is only going to by so much time. So get a switch and doublecheck your work.

hm, the wires shouldnt be burned in the first place. Are you sure its the right fuse in there? But yeah i'd check the switch and wiring, and probably replace the switch.

Believe it or not, the mulitfunction switch pigtail is known to short out, mainly due to a flaw in design. No there is no recall on the pigtail either, but there should be since there are a few people known to have had fires started due to this pigtail melting from the high current and causing shorts and fires. But of course there has not been many complaints filed, so DCx really does not know about it(AFAIK).
The other cause of this pigtail melting is due to a higher current draw being placed on the wiring due to added HID's or fogs taping into the headlights for a 12v power source. This also adds to the cuurrent draw on the wiring and multifunction switch also causing a meltdown...
