From what I've read it's not a problem to goto synthetic. Check out some of the oil company web sites.

Alright so i went and picked up the Mobil 1 Full Synthetic and a PureOne oil filter. Like the start up a lot better with the new oil filter that replaced the fram crap. Hopefully i dont experience any problems.

Think of synthetic oil as only the best part of the oil. Say you want a 5W-30 oil. In conventional oil you get 0W-10, 20W-50 SAE 30 etc. that averages out to 5W-30. The percentage of off weighted stuff keeps dropping as the years go by and the refining steps keep improving but you get the idea. All the Synthetic is very stable manufactured oil that is a 5W-30 to a much greater extent.

This is a GROSS generalization but you get the idea. Just pure good stuff. There is no problems going to synthetic in a functional engine that does not leak. It will only help protect your engine during extended OCI. So say you went 3K on dino-blend and now you want to go 7K. That would work fine. In a 3K OCI wear numbers would be almost identical but you could start a varnish layer that Synthetic would not be prone too. However you can take most synthetics out to 7-10K without issue like running Dino 3K. That Pure1 or Mobil1 filter will help keep it clean enough to make it there without a problem.

Change and have a good time.
