Neon wont go into gear.

Well i was driving today, and i rolled up to a stop light, and my car wouldnt go into 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. i managed to get it home, and i noticed when the car is running, not in gear, and i reenagge the clutch a sound comes from the engine bay, it sounds like a click or somthing similar. The car wont go into those 3 gears weather the engine is running or not. Any ideas what could be wrong?
