Hi Guys.

I can get a 2004 SX 2.0 with 80,000km for $2600 CAD.
But it needs some work, i'm up for it as long as it doesn't have frame damage, i'm gonna give them a call tomorrow to find out but from looking at these pictures, what do you guys think? .....

if you were in the states someone is selling a 2002 neon with a bad tranny for $1500 near by.

Unless you are a master body man I wouldnt buy that car. Neons are cheap and you can get them anywhere. Save your money for something you can drive now.

Drivers side frame rail was pushed in 3 inches on my car, the one your looking to buy looks alot worse!
Save your money and try to find one in better condition...

Agreed, dont' buy it... unless you can do a lot of the work yourself, you'll spend more money to fix it than if you just went and bought one that better condition.

were is the best online places to find a parts car, or a salvageable car?

Or do you guys find it in local junk yards?

Hi all, long time no type but this sparked my interest...

as far as frame damage on a Neon...

the neon is built on a unibody frame with front impact crumple zones. translation. even at a slow speed it will crush like a beer can. not that there was anything wrong with the car before the collision but its designed to take the impact so it doesnt transmit the energy to you the happy driver.

so basically even a slow crash can cause frame damage. and on a unibody frame where its all one piece IE no frame rails to chain-pull straiten it kinda makes it difficult and expensive to fix. so just think if that front end got rocked... its gonna be a whole mess and probably just as easy to total it out and start over.

so I called my uncle who has owned a shop for the last 20 years and asked him how he would fix something like that. and basically he said he would hack off the good part of a strait front end from a junk car, then hack off the bent part of the front end, weld, new fenders and paint and out the door. its obviously more complicated than that because there are several critical measurements that must be calculated so things like the alignment will be back to speck, the engine sits strait in the frame and stuff like that. but frame = expensive

so when your looking at these cars that look like they may have a little bump on the front end or the rear end... remember there is often more damage under the bumper covers that you cant see that makes the car not worth it!

so anyway hope im still proving usefull!

Thanks for your input guys, I decided to stay away from it.

I thought just a new hood, fenders, bumper, headlight and possibly a rad would cover it but I suppose it probabbly will have frame damage and not worth takin the chance, would still be a fun project though.

For $2600 you can buy a older 2gn easy if you know where to look.

You're asking a lot with the 140 000km. You could work some of those guys down, but you seriously wouldn't buy the $3500 neon with 146 000km, or the $3300 neon with 147 000km? Hell, there were even cheaper ones on the Quebec site even.

You want less km, you have to pay. $3500 is very doable, but throw the km limit on it you have and it gets harder. If you were thinking of buying that $2600 one and fixing it for $900, you wouln't have done that. You would have been over budget for sure.

I have a friend who has an account @ 1 of the auction sites in Pa and he got me this '00 with 70000 miles on it for $700. The frame wasn't tweaked but the rad support was bent back a little.Good luck and my advice is to take a body man with you when you go to look.

I ended up buying a Silver 2001 Neon LE with 121,000km for $3000CAD from some retired old guy in the country.
