sorry if it's off topic but can anybody post a how to install injectors?


I don't know how and I need new ones.

1. start the car
2. pull the fuel pump relay from the distribution block
3. let car die
4. remove negitive terminal on battery
5. pop off the injector cover
6. take out the 2 bolts that hold the fuel rail on to the intake manifold
7. remove the wire plugs from each injector
8. carefully pull the fuel rail and injectors as one unit out of the intake. may have to wiggle it a good bit if the o-rings are old or tight.
9. pop off the clips that hold the injectors to the fuel rail.
10. pull injector out from fuel rail.

note-you can pop the injector clips first and pull on the rail. if some stay in the manifold and some stay in the rail no big just yank them out

install is reverse of removal

that should do ya if your swapping stock for stock injectors. if their after market accels or something you may have to change the harness.

too easy should only take you about 20 minutes... if your taking your time

I'd also recommend sometype of a thin lube on the injector O-rings for ease of re-installing, makes them slide in a little better...

Lube always makes it slide in better

I used white lithium spray grease when I cleaned mine out,

thanks I have the haynes book so if there is anything I can't figure out I'll post here.

also I'll probobly try and buy the injectors from here maybe some srt stage 0. Would there be anything else I would need tools wise, adapters?

Even though it's a given, if there is dirt built up around them, like mine (sand) clean before removal!

if its not turboed there really isnt a reason to get bigger injectors...

use sil-glyde as a lubricant. Wont swell the o rings and will protect better against the fuel.

If your naturally aspirated, bigger injectors will cause you to loose power. These things run rich as it is.

what about running more psi to the injectors? Wouldnt that help with atomization of the fuel??

so what's the deal with injectors? bigger is better? I've always thought it was that way, but I've no formal car education.

on a V8 where it wants huge quantities of air and fuel....on a turbo car where it needs to run rich under boost to prevent detonation....bigger injectors are great. On a high-compression, high-revving neon, bigger injectors are great, since they're much hungrier for air, and hence fuel.

For the cleanest burn, you want your air to fuel ratio to be 14.7:1
That means 14.7 parts air for every part fuel. This is what your car's computer does when you're cruising.

Lean it out (add more air), and you will get better fuel economy, at the risk of detonation and higher emissions.

Make it richer (add more fuel), and you make a little more power, until it gets to about 12:1. Any richer than that and the fuel causes you to lose power. The stock neon injectors are capable of providing enough fuel to get it around 12:1, which is what the computer does when you floor it (go wide-open throttle, or WOT).
In fact, the stock injectors and fuel pump are capable of delivering enough fuel to reach 180ish whp IIRC. Adding bigger injectors will only make your computer confused and make you lose power, just like the ebay resistor chip mod.

Of course, if you're going turbo, they're a must.

Why? its more of a discussion now about fuel injectors and there sizing, if anything I should move this to N/A or tuning since it is unrelated to a How To: now......
