The higher idle is from the vac leak. It could also be the whistle. And changing the intake mani gasket shouldnt be that hard.

When you say "at the mag head", you don't mean the head gasket, do you? If you had a leak there, you'd have different problems. Worse ones most likely.

Just change your gasket, fix your vac leak, and it should be fine. That's my guess. You'd be surprized how much one vac leak can throw off the engine idle and operation.

if he has a non-mag intake manifold and a mag head, then he shouldn't be using a gasket at all. He's basically using a double gasket, which often causes leaks, because the non-mag intake mani has those little built-in rubber rings around the runners to act as a gasket. No external gasket necessary. If one of those has gone bad you might have to replace it, but that's all.

You'll probably never get the whistling to quit with that manifold. My brothers car did the same thing...it's a resonance, frequency thing. We thought it was a leak for a while, but it wasn't.

+1 on the non-mag intake. you dont want any gasket except for the rubber cock-ring types. they do the job.

Weird, I have the same setup (mag head - non mag intake) no whistle what so ever.

It'll be interesting to see if my car does it, I'm about to do the same thing, unless I can find a magnum setup cheap. Hint, hint. . .

Different CAI's or lack of one could affect it if it is resonance/standing wave issue.

ok all I have a magnum head on my 2000 SOHC block.
yes the stock intake manifold has rubber gaskets. and I used liquid gasket and inserted a spacer in between my intake manifold and the intake ports. whistle problem solved....

what does everyones VAC read at idle... mine is around 15-12 iish.....

Why did you go to all that trouble to fix a simple problome of new gaskets.

becasue no dealerships are open on weekends for parts. adn I had to go on vacation for a week and drive 400miles. and the fastfab intake spacer has no gaskets and I thought it was leaking aswell..
