ok, so i've been keeping my eye open for a haynes manual, or chilton, or whatever, and the only thing that i've seen is for 2000 to 2003, now correct me if i'm wrong, but the 2002 and 2003 neons are different. i don't get how they cauld cover the 03's then without covering 04 and 05

yes, there was a mid generation change in 2003.

2000 - 2002 model year cars are basically the same

2003 - 2005 model year cars are basically the same.

Personally I think that Haynes manuals are a joke. I have seen to many mistakes in them for it to be taken seriously.

so by 2003 they mean like jan. feb. 2003?

actually 2003 model year cars started being made august 2002.

typically a model year starts in july or august of the previous year, sometimes it can start earlier.

i know, what i'm trying to say is that by 2003 they mean that some may fall into the 00 to 02 catagory on some parts

mechanically i dont think there were many changes, other than the compression drop. i really don't think there was much else. so mechanically you could use it

but the big change was electronically and visually with the front and rear bumper. like sensors changed as well as the style of computer.

electrical would probably be the primary reason that i would get it and 02 and my 04 would be different

then i would avoid the haynes manual.

I got mine from ebay, its supposedly an OEM 2004 FSM, but I'm not too sure of its authenticity, but its been accurate so far.

I think I got lucky as I got mine for $20, but lately I don't think they have been that cheap.

If you have Emule you can hunt around for the FSM. I managed to get mine in PDF format.

They Chilton and Haynes are damn near identical, actually pretty much word for word.

For the $12 or whatever you can find the Haynes or Chilton sometimes its something to have on hand just incase. They word things differently than in the FSM where the FSM says "1) Remove Nuts" The Haynes would say "1) The nuts are located in your left, behind cylinder 1... remove them." Not exactly like that but in some aspects they go into a little more detail as to how to do something instead of just telling you to do it.

Like Frank said, comparing the differences in years you'd be safe using it if it isn't made for your year. There were some changes but aren't enough to make it huge that the books would be completely different.
