Aftermarket sunroof...Anyone got one??

Post by kornholio788 » Wed Oct 03, 2007 1:57 pm

I am looking in to getting an aftermarket sunroof put in my car. I have searched but found no good feedback. I LOVE sunroofs and iv always wanted one. I would like to get a nice quality one though. I will have professionals install it though because I could never have the balls to take a hacksaw to my roof. My questions are

How much did they cost?
Where did you get them?
Brand?
Do they leak, how do you like them?
Did you have them installed or did you do it yourself?
Any other info you can give me or advise?

I konw that i would have to have them weld in some support braces in the roof to compinsate for the big whole because my car is a unibody. I have heard of ppl getting them installed but not much feedback on it.

Also i am not looking for a fancy shmacy electric motor one. I just want a damn hole in my roof. I am perfectly fine with the manual ones. So help me out please

Thanks

The korny one

I've had two aftermarket sunroofs now. One on my escort, one on my NYG.

I don't know anything about them, other than they have never leaked, they're both manual, and they both came with the cars. :D

Never had one but you kind pay for what you get. When I was looking for another car to buy I found an '02 ACR and someone put an aftermarket sunroof in. It was utter garbage and didn't even close without banging the crap out of it. I've heard some people have great luck with them but it really seems to come down to how good the install is and the quality of the unit itself.

DO NOT get an aftermarket sunroof installed!
They will break down, leak, expensive, and you dont want a hole cut into a roof that was not designed for one!

LOLLERSKATES! holy sh*t i totally forgot about those.

Q: I don't understand why someone would want the look without the functionality? Is this a gag to fool your friends?

A: We came with this idea, sometimes people just want to have the look of a sunroof, and can´t afford or don´t have the permission to make a hole to their/parent´s car.

Ican look through my "junk" to see if I still have the factory one I cut out of my Sundance after it was totaled. If you're going through the trouble of welding then might as well have one with drains. Let me know if you're interested I'd prolly let it go for not much more than shipping.

I bought my car back in 2005 and I'm still debating whether I want to get a sunroof installed. It sucked when I found out that the entire roof is different.

Q: Do I get a discount in shipping if I buy 2? I want to put one on the roof and one on the inside of my car so when I look up a can pretend to be looking outside, also can you make one that simulates looking up at the stars I think chicks would really dig it or put a scary face on it so when People in my car look up the think there is somebody on the roof I think you have endless possibilities with this product. Thanks.
Nothing says romance like a scary face on your fake sunroof. Especially if you like to play make believe, calvin and hobbes style.

Can this be put on other parts of the car, such as the hood or trunk lid, or do you have to put it on the roof? Does it fit all models? I have a Dodge Stratus right now, but I'm probably gonna get a Dodge Viper pretty soon.
Yep. You're gonna get a Dodge Viper just as soon as your whiny high school emo band makes it big. But wait! If you can afford a viper, can't you get.................A REAL SUNROOF?

Q: my car does not have an anti lock braking system - i am interested in an abs light for my dash - i cannot afford nor am i interested in the actual braking benefits of an abs system - i am solely interested in tricking people into thinking my car is safer than it is. do you or are you looking into prototyping this product - it seems like its up your alley.
Who do you wan to trick? I'm guessing most of your homies are geriatric. Or else you want to fool your underage girlfriend's mom into thinking she's safe with you :tardbang:
Q: how much horsepower does this add? Aug-17-07
A: The self adhesive sunroof doesn´t add any horsepower to the car.
At least they're honest. It's the buyers that are the idiots. I can almost admire the sellers for making money off of fools who deserve to be ripped off

Anomalous, i'm pretty sure all but the first question you quoted were jokes aimed at the retardednes of the product being sold, not actual inquisitive questions. at least i hope so.

Eh, I hope those questions were just jokes too, but no one ever went broke overestimating the stupidity of the public. Especially on ebay.
Note how many times they repeat that it's ornamental, indicating that they've probably been asked quite a few times about how it "works".

IF you can't tell that those people were not being serious, then you need to get your head examined, or stop being so naive.

You really have no clue how stupid people can be, do you?
Possibly because you're Canadian, and you folks seem to have a better grip on reality.
I have alot of stories.
I once took a girl out for dinner (a college girl, no less), to a place where there were pictures of the dishes on the menu.
She ordered a salad, but wanted it without the onions, tomatoes, avocadoes, and feta cheese, with thousand island dressing instead of greek dressing, etc. basically substituting half of the components for something else. When the salad arrived (and it looked like a damn good salad) she complained that it "didn't look like the picture".
Needless to say, there was no second date.
In phone tech support, there's a reason that the first question they ask happens to be "is your computer plugged in?"
My friend works for a web hosting company. He had an angry customer who had bought a domain name yelling at him because his website hadn't magically appeared exactly as he envisioned it, in spite of the fact that he had not designed a website, nor bought any web design service, nor informed anyone what he wanted the website to be like, nor done anything but bought the name and file space. He literally expected his website to just pop up exactly as he wanted it.

Many of these people are fairly well educated.
Many of the people who shop on eBay are not, especially if they buy things like a fake sunroof sticker.

Like I said, I hope it's a joke, but I get the feeling that it might not be. Perhaps I do need my head examined. Or perhaps you should come down to America to see just how dumb some of my fellow countrymen and women can be. We produce some of the best and brightest, but we also produce some of the dumbest.

congratulations canada, on getting your first woody.

(P.S.)on my first trip to vancouver, when I discovered about loonies and toonies, I thought it was hilarious. And awesome that you could pay bus fare in coin. And the friendly atmosphere and hot loose women were a plus too.
