shake rattle and shimmy

Post by onewickedkid05 » Wed Oct 10, 2007 10:20 pm

So i cant figure this out at about 70mph my steering wheel shakes like its going to fall off. Even more so when i brake the pedal vibrates like it has abs and the steering wheel vibrates hard...my wheels are balanced i just replaced the brake pads does anyone have any ideas to why this happens...
If i brake at anything higher then 40mph my steering wheel and pedal goes out of control

bent rim, Broken Lug Stud, Bad tire, Bad LCA bushings..

Could be several things, I'd take it to a Tire shop

If it does it worse when braking, i would suspect warped rotors. the best resurface is done on car, Ive seen someone turn rotors and drums on a lathe , that didn't know what they were doing and make it worse. loose tie-rods can also cause shimmy. and you are sure the tires are not bad?
if the wheels are not torqued properly you can warp a rotor also.

im pretty sure the rims and tires are good. i have no idea about the lca or the tie rod i can check them tomorrow...i was leaning more towards warped rotors since the car only has 39 it sat for a while..

what ??

Some shops can turn the rotors on the car. You just have to call about it. when the rotors are mounted to the front hubs they are cut parallel to the hub. not necessary, but the brake jobs on the performance cars that come threw the shop that's what we do.
