air intake resonator box...

Post by Paul56 » Thu Oct 18, 2007 10:42 pm

Last week I was poking around that side of the car when I notice the bottom of the resonator box did not appear to be secure.

There also appeared to be some minor damage under the bumper on that side as well... nothing major.

I take the wheel off and the plastic fender guards to discover the resonator box just hanging there with both mounts and the integrity of the resonator broken.

I removed the bloody useless thing. Apparently someone who had the car before me hit the curb a little too hard one time.

Do I notice any difference? No, other than having less rattles. Now I'm wondering how many other useless parts there are that I can remove off the Neon before I notice any difference.

keep it around just in case you ever get a cold air intake. cut the bottom quarter off and remount it. They make excellent cai splash shields.

The whole bottom of mine was missing, there didn't appear to be any other damage tho. I removed it and fabbed a splash shield similiar to hudson neon now makes. If I had to do it again I'd buy his. The only purpose is to quiet the intake noise. I think if they took all the research $ they put into making engines quieter (with no other benefits) they could have had a good electric setup by now, that would even quieter! But then our options for a more agressive sounding car would be slim!

Patience, of course, is a very powerful weapon, but sometimes I start to regret that it is not a firearm.
Too much time spent here is a sign of a bad case of Ownaneonvirus.
