so 160 is roughly 100mph give or take a mph , so what would starve a car of its top end?

It should hit the limiter at 190km/hr.

it wont touch it , sort of takes a dump at around 140 and slowly and i mean slowly climbs to 160 any idea? i think a compression test is in order and go form there maybe? then look at the cat if that checks out?

get your car a tuneup! it should get to at least 180 if its an auto. it may take a while lol, but it will go that fast.

By "it" do you mean your car or the tune up? mine hits 110mph/177 kph fairly easy but after that it climbs alot slower, that is with stock TB and exhaust. Your air filter, cat., muffler all could play a part. How many miles does your car have? When I had my cyl. head off@112000 miles the exhaust valves/ports were almost carboned shut. but you would never know it by the way it ran. It was only a matter of time before some thing would of happened. The only reason i pulled the head was I couldn't get enough air pressure to hold the valves shut while removing valve locks. The valves were beginning to not seat from the carbon! Shit you don't want to hear but anything is possible as far as WOT output.
EDIT: this cuold be useful...

Lack of horsepower. It takes roughtly 108whp for the Neon to reach 118mph (the afforementioned speed limiter).

You also didn't mention what year/Trim level you have. the mtx's have two different O.D. ratios it's possible (a long shot) that yours is the lower numerically 0.72 vs 0.81) which would make the motor work harder. If you had the power to back the 0.72 then the top speed would be higher than the 0.81 but we're talking N/A neons here...

Mine has hit it though (4 speed), although I have not done that for some time!

If you have a 4 speed ATX, it cuts out at 160 KM/H (at 4000 RPM). If you take it out of overdrive, you will go faster. I had mine up to 180 KM/H with about 400 RPM left before I hit red-line.

been to 137...in my r/t
Would a 3.94 tranny help the regular 2.0 engines go faster, not considering the lower overall top speed?
