when my timing belt broke i was mad and i punched a small dent in my fender its about a half inch deep in the middle and 5-6 inches wide, and its right in the middle of the fender...it was stupid yes, BUT can i somehow fix it myself...im thinking a small block of wood and a hammer from the inside of the fender, im sure the dent would come out but would my paint crack or ripple bad...

any thoughts?

no pics as its getting a new motor right now.

Duct tape ftw!!

On a serious note, no matter what you will probably end up with a small crease in the metal from it being deformed by impact. You could knock it out some, but you'll probably wanna bondo, and repaint the fender. This could just be the way my dad trained me, but for best results you're gunna need a little body work.

Try pushing it out by hand from the inside first, if it won't do it with your hand get a rubber sanding block and shove it with that, so there are no hard edges to leave dimples sticking out.

lol... i could tell you how I WOULD do it. but that would involve a hammer and dolly, a very minute amount of filler, and the whole 9 yards. but i wouldn't recommend a block of wood, professionally. the block will often times leave a small crease going the other way.

if you're lookin to do it at home, i'd say... oh god this is just wild for me... but i'd say bring the fender inside and place it with the painted side down on a couch and wrap a t-shirt around the head of a hammer and duct tape it on and knock it out that way. that way there's something soft on both sides.

otherwise i'd say to take it in. something like that should only take 5min. to hammer out, 5min. to block it, and then depending on the paint system the shop uses 2-3hrs. to repaint PROPERLY, and then 30min. for bake and cool down. you should be able to have a decent shop do it in 3-4hrs. so i'd say it would be pretty cheap

is there a crease in the dent? if not you can probably push the dent out by hand from the other side

Oh yeah, timing belts :cussing: ... Try doing that in Feb in your garage during an all night head swap/tranny swap marathon.... I DO thank the guys that helped get it done, but it was a major PITA to do, especially jackin the motor up + down repeatedly to get at the mounts and bolts :banghead:. Umm yeah. Don't REALLY want to go through that again anytime soon...
