sheared bolts and sway bars...

Post by Predator » Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:36 pm

When I was doing my clutch and flywheel replacement I sheared off two bolts on opposite sides of the car for the front sway bar I havent attempted to try to remove them but if I cant get them out that sucks... but does a new Eibach sway bar use the same mounting spots or are they different? The brackets they show look different then the stock ones... (for a picture look a MPx) Thanks.

They'll use the same locations.. best thing to do is carefully drill them out and retap the hole. I've had one do the same thing to me and almost 2 others, you just have to be careful taking the bolts and and do it very slowly with some liquid wrench or pb blaster to make it a little easier. Take the bolts out too fast and the heat will build up which in turn weakens the bolt causing them to sheer off.

You could also try an easyout and heat to get the broken ones out. all there is on the other side is a welded nut. If that breaks loose you're screwed. When you fix it, either by drilling and easyout or by drilling and tapping, apply liberal amounts of anti-seize to the new bolts.
edit: heat from a torch isn't the same as heat from the friction of removal. The heat from a torch will heat the nut and expand it a little.
