SRT-4 vs. Stock Shifter

I’m running a 2004 Transmission and Engine in my R/T but kept my Mopar Performance Short Shifter. Worked great before the swap but after the swap the shifter sits closer to the back of the car then normal. In other words when the car is in 1’st gear it looks like it’s in 2nd. I have been driving like this for almost 2 years now I not longer but finally decided to fix this. Before I go buying a SRT-4 shifter has anyone notice shifter position change between the SRT-4 and Stock unit?

Thanks.

So far in my ACR ive had
Stock ACR
Stock SRT
Mopar 2nd gen
Mopar SRT
SRT Hurst

All worked without any differences except shorter shift.

The stock SXT shifter and the stock SRT shifter that have been in my car are the same.

That is really funny. I installed my stock 2001 R/T shifter and the Transmission will not even go into 2'nd, 4’Th, and Reverse all the way. When in Reverse it almost hits the parking brake lever. It just pops out when driving. I guess I'll just have to buy a stock SRT-4 shifter and she how that works. Not going to bother with a SRT-4 STS till then.

Thank You all for the quick replies

i Installed the mopar STS on my base 2000, no problems what so ever. something is off with your shifter cables, tranny, or engine mounting...or maybe you just have a longer car :D

let us know what you find !!good luck

Something must be messed up if you're having these problems with a stock shifter...?

Well with the short throw I'm fine but I just noticed that the shifter sits closer to the center console then when it did before the SRT-4 swap.

But if I use the Stock R/T shifter because of the longer throw it almost hits the console.

Now just looking at photos of the stock SRT-4 shifter the actual lever is different. At least that's how it looks. I think this is an issue because I am running an Neon shifter with an SRT-4 Trans where everyone else is using an SRT-4 Shifter with a Neon Trans.

Looks like a stock SRT-4 Shifter is only like $40 at the dealer so I’ll be picking one up as soon as I get some time.

I wouldn't think it would make a difference. The shift pattern is the same and the bolt locations are the same.

The only major difference between the stock Neon shifter and the stock SRT shifter was the rod, but they were still the same height I believe.

Check ebay, I got my stock SRT shifter from there for $18 shipped.

Also, post up a pic so we can see whats going on. It might be something simple that is being overlooked.

Yes the SRT-4 Rod is straight if I’m correct, but the Neon one is slightly angled forwards the console.
