As for the neon, they are great in the snow with snow tires on. I drove through a good 8-10in of snow and never got stuck with it yet. Where I live they usually do not plow the roads untill after I leave for work. And sometimes they wont plow untill it stops snowing.
Thats penndot for ya.. Sometimes they just dont plow at all hahaha

When you throw your neon into storage, talk to your insurance company and see if they offer "storage" insurance. I did it last year with my SXT. Cost me $86 every 6 months and coverege left, damage, ect. while it was stored away in a barn.
What sucks, here in Ohio if the car has current plates on it you still have to carry liability ins. which is the most expensive part of the policy. But a good agent will write up a letter stating that it is stored so if you have to show proof of insurance your licence won't get suspended. I can see the law's point, if you have to use that car in a emergency you would be driving uninsured. But if it came to a life or death situation I'd be driving it regardless if it had plates or insurance. But I'm sure Michigan has different insurance rules.

U guys have got me convinced that some winter tires will be the way to go. I found a used front bumper with chipped paint at a junkyard and they want $240! HA! I can get the same bumper I have now for $100 more shipped. What a ripoff.

$240 is absolutely fucking ridiculous. I paid $200 for my SRT front bumper still in the mopar plastic...

I WOULD switch out my bumper and take off the sideskirts if I were you

Local guy homeboy. Wrecked his SRT, bought an STI and had no use in an SRT to STI swap...

Its actually our township that is like this. They also rip up and down the street like aholes when plowing. Folded my mirror forward many times, broke my neighbors rear sliding window on his truck, etc.

I think bumpers are like 20bux or so at my local junk yard. Do you have any other yards around you? You could buy one off ebay for aroudn 100shipped.

Thats what i'll be doing.... a pain.. yes... but what can do u. I cant afford another car.
That would be your best bet i think.

You could buy a beater, but that costs more for insurance, and then you have to pay for storage.

If you drove the neon the way it is now, you will more then likely have issues getting around because of the kit. Urethane can take alot more pounding then fiberglass, but fiberglass is a lot easier to fix.

So by the sounds of your situation, i think taking the kit off is the best way, or just drive the car as is really cautious

Your car isn't lowered and the kit is urethane so you would be able drive in the winter, like sully said, just be cautious and take the bus when it snows a lot and the streets arn't plowed.

... But taking the kit off is your best bet, get a few buddies out and do it in your garage. It will take you a couple hours. Think about it soon, its only gonna get colder.

And winter tires are a must, especially if you don't have ABS like most of us.

Unfortunately I don't have a garage and I don't have any friends who do. I'll be out in the cold doing it if I can find a bumper in time. Our local junkyard wanted $240 for a front bumper complete with chipped paint! Not that the paint will matter much to me but still. So I gotta shop around I think.

I've had enough spinouts in the middle of a busy road to take their word on winter tires :confused2: lol. I've heard the difference is like night and day.

I will never forget the feeling of spinning around on a snow covered road at highway speeds with a transport truck coming in the opposite direction.

When the rear started to lose traction I could hear myself say very quietly "oh no" and figured with the transport truck coming in the opposite direction I was toast.

Spun around... snow everywhere could not see a thing... I was just along for the ride. Eventually landed in the ditch with a lot of damage, fortunately I was ok except for being badly shook up.

Before that I was a believer in getting by with all-season tires in the winter and taking my chances on long winter trips. I realize just how lucky I was to have not had a more serious incident all those years.

Now I'm a firm believer in winter tires all around and waiting for better weather or simply not leaving for a highway trip when the weather is bad.

This winter when the roads are bad or it is quite cold I will be on the bus with the Neon safely parked at home.

Make sure you get studded tires if it gets icy your way, the car will sound like a tank and until it starts to snow you'll hate them (increased braking distance, have to accel/corner slower to keep on the road), but once that shit hits you'll never know the difference except that you'll have better traction on ice.
