my high beams have a mind of their own -- HELP!!!
I was driving on the interstate and my high beams came on all by themselves; like, they just came on. The fog light indicator on my dashboard cut off and the high beam indicator came on by itself... twice. Is it because I have drivers lights wired up to come on when my high beams come on? I have a relay to cut my drivers lights on and I wired the coil of the relay to the high beam circuit. Is it because I have a relay wired in there or do you think my multi-function switch is going out? To get it to go back to normal I'll switch it back between high beams and low beams and eventually it'll go back to low beams. Please help!

The relay coil would need power from the high beam circuit to do anything. So my guess would be the MFS. The only other possibility would be that the relay has gotten corroded on the inside shorting power to the high beam wire

not going to say that this is the end all be all install guide, but on my car (03 SXT) its like this:
2 screws to take the column cover off. they're on the bottom, use a philips. then you squeeze the top together and pull apart.
MFS has 2 screws or small bolts in it. remove those and wiggle it out.
reverse to install. but check to see that it works before you put it all back together.
I assume no responsibility for waht happens. but that is how it is on mine

i changed the MFS but before i did if i would leave my headlights on for a while and i could put my hand on the steering column and it would be pretty warm...so i figured i knew for sure what it was.....well i changed it out today and when i did i pulled the conn. out the back of it...HOLY CRAP lol it was like cracked (from heat) along the bottom flat part and the section that actually receives the prongs...it was burnt like crazy and melted....luckily i could still use it....but wouldnt that kinda maybe be a safety issue for people who dont know a piston from a valve lol....what if that damn thing caught fire....that woulda been fun! but it didnt and problem is solved...all in a days work...actually like 15-20 mins of work lol.

Of course wiring the headlights on relays would take the load off the MFS. As all it would be energizing is the relay coils and running lights. May help the output of the headlights. but it will require splicing the headlight harness but that may be easier than replacing the MFS constantly. just use the highest quality relays you can buy and mount them in a weather tight box.
