"Caravan front" That's why I like my '00 front so much!

Ok, I always wondered about this bumper... I assumed it was a first-year SRT. I knew the last concept SRT had this bumper, but I figured Dodge put the two extra vents in as a last thing.

I didn't know there was an SRT-D until now, and that was its front end. I LIKE IT!

I think if I owned an SRT-4, the SRT-D bumper is the first thing I would put on it. Looks more european.

Wow... I just noticed this:

Image

It looks like they not only block off the rear-located airdam routes (that are normally used by SRT-4 to cool off turbo from airscoop), but they reroute things so that the airscoop is now a RAM-AIR CAI into the airbox! Fawkin' sweet if you ask me.

I think the SRT-D hood and bumper both would be my first changes to an SRT-4.

Eh, SRT-D was just a styling exercise for SRT-4 wannabes  but that is only my opinion and everyone is free to differ. But I can see the insurance advantage for doing an SRT-4 swap into an SRT-D (if high insurance was keeping someone from having an SRT-4).

The Nostrils are on the SRT-4 for a reason.. Go ahead and change the bumper to one with out them. Watch the Underhood Temps go up and the efficiency of the cooling system go down.

as I rethink about it, yes, the Dodge Daytona turbos had the same problem, so in '89 they added two very similar slatted vents int he front bumper. I suppose they got the idea for the SRT's from the Daytona.

I imagine that a biggie FMIC would make them all the more critical. Oh well... I like the SRT-D bumper.

Maybe a better aftermarket radiator would solve this issue? Other cars have less airflow and do fine with FMIC's....

They do when you stick an FMIC on them.

And the way they usually solve that is with an aftermarket radiator and a different temp thermostat.

I'd rather not have a VW engine

You should feel how hot a PT-Turbo gets under the hood in the summer.....it's nuclear.

DCX should have come up with a better heat exchange system like the SRT's hood. It really starts to cook when a Stage 1 PCM is installed and it spikes to 18 PSI.

Arro-
The picture you posted is my car. The SRT-D uses the SRT-4 hood.
I gained 1 MPG by doing that PVO hood mod. Since it's a N/A engine I could get away with closing the turbo cooler vents to divert more air to the airbox duct. After awhile it will leave a dirt ring on the K&N filter.

Did you ever use those SRT-4 rear hubs that I sold you?

the rear airvents are still open in that picture, and that hole over the airbox is a custom venture, that passageway exists on all srt hoods and some people cut the hole out to make the ram air

I removed the scoop and blocked the turbo ducts internally and changed the air flow path to divert towards the airbox duct with some automotive grade foam rubber material. The scoops water diverter was modified to allow the air to flow straight back instead of downward.

I tested it with a portable wind tunnel (small leaf blower) and the
air is definately diverted from the turbo duct to the airbox. It's been through heavy rains without any problems of water getting to the filter, a testimate to the rain gutter PVO engineered.
