Synthetic oil......

Do you really need to run synthetic oil on a neon? In the manual it recommends just regular oil. I got 58k on my Neon and have just been using regular Castrol 5w 30 (typo). Would synthetic really help it run better?

Why are you running 10W? In the manual it says 5W?
Mainly the only reason I run it in mine is b/c I see high revs (6000+) a lot and would like that added layer of protection there to keep good lubrication.

long story short.....
Synthetic oil has a better thermal breakdown point than regular oil. I have tried regular oil in a turbo daytona then tried synthetic.....the synthetic NEVER broke down as quick as the standard oil.
Synthetic is not cheap, but you can go ATLEAST 6000miles between oil changes VS 3k, it protects the motor a HELL of a lot better that standard, its also more slick and allows the engine to rev faster....there are TONS of stories online about using synthetics and they all state the same thing, synthetic is BETTER than standard oil....

I drive my car pretty hard at times, so I will switch to synthetic at my next oil change.

thanks for the information.

Mobil 1 0-30 - Crossfire's use it, I have not tried it yet
Mobil 1 5-30 - less windage, happy revving
Mobil 1 10-30 - some windage, not as rev happy...but more protection
Mobil 1 15-50 - to thick, use if running a turbo application, better oil pressure, better protection because of the heat generated by the turbo.

This does not relate to the topic, but how much did you get those pt cruiser rims for? Those look awesome on a Neon

I just did my first oil change on this car at about 1700 miles (tried to get an early one in at 1500, didn't make it.) I'm thinking I'll do one or two more changes at the regular intervals and then move over to Mobil 1.

That's what I am gonna do.

ive been told that before too...pm....
Anyways,
Don't switch to synthetic until a MINIMUM of 6000miles on the odometer, supposively the 2.0 does not totally break in till 10k miles but your safe to switch at 6k.
NEVER RUN FULL SYNTHETIC ON A NEW MOTOR
I have been there and done that, mobil 1 is such a superlube that if you install it from day one on a fresh motor, nothing will break in properly and you will cause more harm than good.
Dont believe that rumors that the SRT's or the vipers have factory fill mobil 1 in them, the factory assumes by the time you have your first oil change the motor will be broken in and then you can run full synth.
If any motor comes off any assembly line with synth oil in it, the motor has already ran long enough for proper break in before they put the synth oil in it....

I put mobil 1 in after 4000 miles, oh snap, I better go tell my now 62k motor not to break. Motors are broken in at the factory. So put mobil 1 in right away if you really want. Only place not to put it in is a brand new fresh motor, as in 0 miles, because the rings will not seat.

hate to break it to you but NO motor is properly broken in at DCX. Like I stated before, they assume you will go buy the owners manual for proper intervals.
If you ever seen a car hauler take a brand new car off the trailer and beat the F out of it unloading it you will know. They have enough miles on them to go from the factory to the dealer and that is it! they do not sit there at the factory and run these motors for 1500miles or atleast the time to properly break them in, it costs to much money.
They assume that the average consumer will drive the car or truck properly and by the time its due for an oil change it is properly broken in. They do not break in new motors!
The only TECH that I work with that is VIPER certified told me the assembly situation and like I stated before, dont go synth until a MIN. of 6000 miles.......I am not sh$ttin you!

Well I went to synthetic at 4k. Guess your friend isn't always right. And they are broken in at the factory, I believe they told us and showed us at the plant tour at n2k2, or 3. One of those. Its properly broken in thats for sure. I'd slap in mobil one with 1 mile on it. And who said anything about driving it around the parking lot for 1500 miles, you don't think they have ways of breaking in it? Also, I believe SRT4's come with mobil 1 from the factory, or at least in 03 they did.

a friend of mine bought an SRT4 through me and it had conventional oil in it from the factory.

How do you know this? Also, early on when srt4's came out, they said synthetic only. Then later sent out a bulletin to save themselves money on those free oil changes they gave out. So makes you wonder, srt's did come with mobil 1 from the factory. Boy, those DCX guys must be retards, maybe they should talk to your friend.

My 01 Neon has 58k on it, I have been using regular oil ever since I got it. Would it be okay if I started to put Mobil 1 in it?

Yeah Raul it will be fine. I have been running Synthetic in mine since around 40K. I have been putting Mobil 1 in the entire time. I love it, would'nt ever go back.
