Rear window defroster

I'm not sure my rear window defroster is working... I really needed it today for the ice. Is there a relay or fuse that could be blown out? What are your experiences with this?

Check the wires on the window itself... if any of them are broken then it will not work because the circuit is not complete.

It should still work if 1 printed wire is broken, they are parallel circuits the other ones will still work. (Unless they've changed to series circuits recently) You can check where the connectors are attached to the glass with a test light. check for power to ground, then check across both ends to see if the ground is good at the other end.
There should be a relay prolly built into the switch. don't have my FSM here so I can't tell you what fuse(s) to check.

Off topic: One thing that I've found is if the back glass is exposed to the weather for a while the printed circuits will disintigrate. Just an FYI for salvage parts. They look like they're good but if you look close it is just the color left on the glass but the conductor is gone.

I would check the fuse, My defroster wasn't working last year and the fuse looked fine so stupid me i decided not to replace it. Anyhow later on blew out a fuse doing my stereo and speakers and went through the fuses and found that the defroster fuse was indeed blown out. Worth Checking out imo.

Relay and timer are built into the switch. Checked the pdf FSM I downloaded.

Also just check and make sure everything's CONNECTED at the back window. If you knock one of the connectors loose while, say, cleaning the rear window the defroster won't work...Easiest fix in the world.

Eh? :tardbang: ? I've got limo tint in the back window since I bought the car, never had a problem with the defroster not working...? Meh, I must be missing something here... :banghead:

yeah as far as I know, it hasn't worked since I've had the car... it came to me imo tinted, so perhaps it was screwed up when that went on.

Window tint shouldn't affect the heater element, unless they cleaned the backglass with something that dissolved the elements before applying the tint film.
