Those familiar with Canadian Neons...

Over on another message board that I sort-of frequent, a guy's claiming a kill on a '95 Neon (which isn't really the point). The part that bugs me is that he insists that it's equipped with a 2.5 from a Plymouth Breeze. Not swapped in, but factory equipped. I didn't even know there was a Plymouth in canada....

If you read a few posts down you'll see how he "backs up" his information. Am I wrong? Are there really 2.5 liter neons in existance?

Yes there was a Plymouth Neon in canada... but as far as I know no 2.5 was ever put in a neon without a swap.

I would say the same thing as stated above. I never heard of anything over 2.0 before the magnum being equipped standard.
Of course I don't know as much about Canadian Neons, as I do Canadian Bacon....mmmmmm.....bacon.

I had a '95 Plymouth Neon, but it had a regular 2.0 L SOHC. As far as I know the only other engine offered was the 2.0 L DOHC (on '99 & older).

Hey, Canadian user here. My Mom has owned both a 95 SOHC Sedan and a 98 Dohc Coupe, so I kinda like neons. Hence my 2005. For reference, unless it was swapped by a P/O and the guy didn't know, there was no 2.5 DOHC in any Neon, CDN or not

Call his bluff, ask for pics!!

there has NEVER been a factory installed engine with a displacement larger than 2.0 Liters (122 ci, 1995 cc) in ANY neon model regardless of year or market. the only 2.5 Liter engine chrysler offered during the time the breeze was available was a V6 (which i'm not exactly sure was even available in a breeze to begin with), and there is no chance of fitting that thing into a neon's engine bay without SERIOUS modification.
as EclecticBlue stated, i'd also recommend getting pics from him of this.

1995-2000 the neon ONLY had a 2.0 SOHC or a DOHC ,DCX fased out the DOHC since they were able to create the same power out of a SOHC magnum,
00(01)-2004 the SOHC mangum was an option for the neon as in the ACR or R/T model only. As for the SRT4 that is a different scenario, they offered a 2.4 motor in that, other than the above listed....any neon with anything other than a 2.0 or a 2.4(srt) has never been factory installed with anything bigger....

I was about 90% sure there were nothing but 2.0's installed in Neon's but I just needed some backup. The guy's dodging the question... he responded with a huge description of the plymouth breeze... and how it came with a 2.0. I don't think he's understanding that the conflict lies in the "2.5" he typed after the Neon. Maybe he didn't realize there were a couple neon-savvy people on the board and thought he'd look touger if it was a 2.5 instead of a 2.0. I dunno.

**Update: I just read this idiots thread again, and now he is claiming that the 2.4L was installed in Brampton?!?!! When, originally it was an AMC plant, when it turned chrysler, it built the Eagle Premier, followed by the first gen LH cars, next the 2nd gen LH platform cars, and currently the Rear dirve LX platform cars. None of which used the 2.4L motor, what a dumbass. Please feel free to correct him on my behalf

1995 had an odball 2.0sohc with the option of a dohc, 96 was a different 2.0 sohc than a 95 and it was used until 2000 where they changed it again...talk about confusing...lol
The dohc was fased out when the sohc HO motor came into play as the replacement for the dohc since it created the same amount of power as the dohc. The SOHC HO was introduced in 2001 and fased out in 2004 and the neon itself is dead as of 2005 since there is going to be a mitsu replacement and the neon name is finished....whew that was a long winded info to post...lol
As for the JA body(stratus, etc) there was a 2.0 DOHC option or the 2.5 V6 in place of the common 2.4 4cyl. Other than that(in the usa) there was no other option available drivetrain wise. Hell, you could not even get a 5 speed JA in the USA as an option. Over in mexico you could get a turbo 5speed 2.4 years ago, but it was considered an export model only.
Sorry, im rambling again....lol....
