how long will spilt oil burn on a header? my buddy and i were doing an oil change and he spilled like 1/4 of a quart over my valve cover which ran to my header.....its been 2-3 days and it still smells like burning oil and sometimes a little smoke comes out of my passenger headlight. its realli starting to annoy me....any ideas how to clean the bay

Brakekleen will knock the oil off, then evaporate. Just put a piece of cardboard under the car to catch the drips so they won't stain shit.

its an aerosol cleaner. Most auto parts stores will sell it or something similar. Its main use is cleaning brake dust and rotors, but it sheets oil very well.

ill give it a try tomorrow morning thanks. The burning oil smell was fien until it started slightly smoking out the motor.

dont do it while the car is running, brakekleen may hit the coil and explode. i had a small fire at my garage fromt his before lol :banghead:

LOL yeah, I would have mentioned that, but I figured the flamable label on the can would be warning enough. But yeah, don't do it while the header's hot, it might also be combustable.
