it's been beaten to death and we all sorta get how it works and what it does (supposetly anyways) but who here has modded their engine and what gains have you seen? is it a true mod chocker or just up to a point

the only worthy gains with the ngc are seen with turbo or nitrous

I haven't seen anything while datalogging to indicate that the PCM is trying to hinder performance. I have full timing and fuel trims are at 0% @ WOT like they should be. So no pulling of timing or fuel. I'll see what it looks like during a 1/4 run here in a couple weeks.

In being a casual observer of various discussions on the NGC, I have to confess, I can hardly believe that the main objective of the computer is to arrive at a pre-determined power output. It just doesn't make sense and seems to be a pessemistic outlook on the possibilities of mods. What's needed is a straight-up side-by-side comparison of dyno numbers. Being into cars (older ones, though) for a number of years I just can't see a stock neon vs one with various simple airflow mods (intake, exhaust, port/polish) would both show 134 horsepwer (rather, whatever that is at the wheels). I dunno... my car is still stock, but all these stories won't stop me from modifying it in the future. And, even if my car is limited to stock horsepower, then I can always do suspension work, as well as I.C.E. stuff. I hardly think something like this is worth avoiding a few model years of cars... I dunno.

Yes! I'm glad to see some good hearty sarcasm! I doubted it at first, but when I read your sig I was 100% positive you weren't serious. Being a n00b here, I think I'll steer clear of being sarcastic until I've been around longer.

ive seen a 2003 SE respond to minor bolts on pretty well, (CAI, exhaust etc..)
HIs 1/4 miles got lower, so all the big NGK scandal is kinda BS

My knock sensor was pulling timing tho. When I put the engine back together I didn't use any rubber washers on the knock sensor. Had a whole 16 deg timing @ 90% load with 8psi. Did Jim's KS mod and know I have 26 deg @ 90% with 8psi. My engine is a little noisier than it was stock with the new cam and forged pistons so that could be the culprit. Its not detonating. I never logged it with stock bottom end so I have nothing to compare it to.

i logged mine stock bottom end a bunch of times.
i always pulled between 24-27degrees.
i never did the knock mod. but i have recently added dogbone motor mounts. so im curiuos to see if my timing was affected by that.
so you built the neon? what rods did you go with? and what cam?> screw you guys who have time to build your blocks..

so 24-27 degrees is normal??
I got into a week or so argument with some guy on the .org about NGC and not one person backed me up from here so i was a little

ed. All he did was posted things that were old and didn't really have any dyno's or anything to back them up. Then he called everyone here morons and idiots and said that 2gn members didn't know what they were talking about....
