well I just thought I would ask this real quick, I was going up a bridge and passed a car, well after I dropped my friend off I started to smell a burning plastic smell. not sure what it is. I still smell it when I drive. do you know what It could be? car is running fine. thanks guys.

Have you looked under your car? Maybe a plastic bag blew underneath against your exhaust. Or your coolant overflow bottle fell against your exhaust mani.

Yeah check for a plastic bag. Same thing happened to me a while back. There where plastic bags all over the road and I had no choice but to drive over them. A couple got stuck on my exhaust and I could smell them burning as well as smoke coming our from under my hood and my car. I got a little freaked and took it to the closest dealer and they put it up on a lift and showed me the pieces of plastic that where melted on my exhaust pipe. If this is the case, your going to either have to let it burn off or when it's cool, get under your car and chip it off. I waited for it to burn, not a good idea. It really smelled. I had people all ways asking, "Is your car ok?"

well I just filled up my water today in the overflow, it seems to be in the same place it was, I will have to check under the car in the day light.

now that I think about it when I went to walmart there was a plastic bag on the ground in the middle of the space, I didn't worry about it though. thats probably what happened.

If you DON'T find any melted plastic bags on the exhaust, just to be safe, also check the MFS to make sure it's not melting and burning up. When mine went I would occasionally see "puffs" of smoke coming from the steering wheel, smelled that 'burning' smell, but never put 2+2 together until it was too late.

Could be a plastic...

One winter I could not avoid running over a large tarpaulin... stopped about a mile later in front of a store to discover this thing dragging under the car. Detached it with some difficult... backed up and left it in front of the store.

yeah I smelled plastic burning in my car and my mfs went a couple days later. Monitor it and make sure everything is working properly.

IIRC installing a new MFS should cure the problem IF the OE has melted (for example, mine melted back in '03, I had a new one installed, and have never had the problem again *knocks on a Redwood*). I'm sure BRR or Danteneon can elaborate much more than I can though.
