NEWBe Help!

Post by 9nine9 » Thu Jul 21, 2005 5:24 pm

Well I just bought my second Neon, I had a 95 my wife brought to our marriage but I never did any thing more than put a cd Player in for here, before we traded it off. My new Neon is a 2000 ES , Manuel Tranny. I am wondering What the recommended order for mods would be. I have worked on many DSM( Eclipse, Talon, Lasers) so I am no stranger to mods but I am used to Forced induction. So With no Turbo I guess I am wondering were to start and what order to go in. What Brands of parts people recommend. The only thing I can see off the bat that needs to be done is some gauges ( oil, Water, Volts)

Any input would be great. Thanks.

Start out with your typical...CAI,Exhaust,plugs and wires...then slowly go from there. As stated above, Modern has a good resipe for the neon..

Sell the neon and buy a talon! hahaha your not gonna see the power in a neon that ya did before bra!!! My opinion, swap an srt4 engine into your beast if you want power. Example

The dealership up here took a 2004 dodge sx sport and slammed 12g's into this car. Air ride suspension/nos/headers/cat exhaust and raced it against a STOCK srt4.. Guess who won.............

If you thought the 12gs did anything but make a fool of yourself you hit the nail right on the head. The srt4 blew the doors off a 04 sx sport. Reasons for buying an srt4 engine ALOT CHEAPer on Ins.

I think whats wrong is that after 12gs it still couldnt beat a stock srt4!!! i think a 2.4L turbo charged engine is needed if your looking for speed! stock le could still beat a civic tho

Yeah... if you're spending 12K and still can't beat a stock SRT-4... you're doing something wrong. If you were spending that kinda cash and pick your parts wisely so everything would be a true supporting modification, you can beat an SRT-4.

SRT-4

Post by 9nine9 » Tue Jul 26, 2005 5:19 pm

So What does an SRT-4 Motor go for? $$$$ Just curious.

My Talon on the other had is Dead right now I will miss it. :( I know the neon will need lots of mods to Pull like my talon did But man the parts for that thing were (are) so expensive. Right before I bought my NEON, 2 weeks ago I called the local (Very Experienced) DSM mechanic and asked about a rebuild and he quoted me $2300. That's me pulling the motor out and putting it back in. So I checked my favorite DSM Parts site http://www.buschurracing.com. A new motor is around $2600. So out of curiosity I called the same guy back and asked about the neon motor $1600 and he pulls it and puts it back in. :D

I got my Neon for $4500 I couldn't pass up the deal. 8) Not when it was going to cost more than that just to get the Talon Reliable, and to even putting performance parts in. SO I am happy with my decision and the cost of bolt-ons for the neon.

I like to go fast every now and then But Truthfully I don't race and I don't Speed ( I like cheap insurance ) . But when I am out in the country now and then and like to open it up I like the performance to be there. So simply I don't need the Gas guzzling turbo charged car any more.

Thanks for the input Guys. I really like the site. And look forward to contributing what I can. :D

999 your in the same boat as me right now.......
This forum is here to help, and NOT guide you the wrong direction.....

As for the setup, it was already posted....a 2gn SOHC 2.0 can't top what the Mitsu offers as for the DOHC 2.0 is concerend....BUT ,the Mopar 2.0 SOHC can be built to be close to those specs.....
The sad part is, there is a restriction......the 2.0 stock can only put out aroung 250hp modded. The 2.0 DOHC mitsu can put out over that....
The problem is what do you plan on doing with the car? 250-300hp peak is perfect for a street driven car, as in FWD......
