It probably wasn't - I'm just too much of a novice to figure it out...and I have limited time because it's our only car and we have no carport or garage so if it's raining (and I'm in Seattle) I can't really go out and look all over the car.
Technically in the "notes" it said the wire was "broken" and the clutch assembly had to be removed and taken apart so they could get the wire all the way out and repair it. Anyway, the temp now measures 40 degrees so it all works.
Thanks for all your help everyone. I did learn some things =)

Next time you have trouble with your car, try following a trouble tree and diagnosing the problem on your own. The best thing to do is ask on the forums and start with the easiest things to check. When the stuff starts getting hard or to the point where you don't have the equipment, then take it to a shop. The goal isn't just to solve your problem but to save you some much needed money. I am still in training, even though I'm formally educated in the field and have a degree. SO I am only making $7.50 an hour until I transfer onto line work and so I know just how much you can save by doing your own maintinence and as much diagnosing as you possibly can. Believe me, when you make the time, it's time well made.

nah, I didn't see your question about it until after I got back from the shop.
I did check the pressure again with my gauge - 45 - right in the "good" or "normal" range. So the gauge works =)

I'm a little late but I just got my A/C fixed the other day so here:
Mine was out for a good 3 years and my regular mechanic didn't want anything to do with it (now ex-mechanic). After work one day I took it over to midas which I never do because I'm wasn't all that comfortable with the whole franchise mechanic thing. But, they said they wiggled a wire and it started blowing cold instantly. It was just the wire and plug that go into the compressor were worn out and not making good contact anymore. They fixed it cheap so I had them fix my oil leak too, which my mechanic said was head gaskets, but turned out to be valve covers...saved me 1500 bucks.
Hope that helps someone, somewhere.
Good luck.
