Motorsport Edition??

Post by sidepipe87 » Wed Oct 15, 2008 4:02 pm

So I just saw this posted on Craigslist, and I'm curious as to whether it is a Motorsport Edition? It doesn't mention it, but it's red with black Silverstones with silver center caps. I don't know a whole lot about these but I thought they were pretty rare, no?

I don't think so. The Motorsport Editions were dressed as R/Ts IIRC. That car appears to have a non R/T bumper. Plus it doesn't have the decals on the doors or on the windshield. No raccoon headlamps either.

I can run the VIN to verify though.

*Edit* Here is a pic of one...

Ahh, but that is where you are wrong (I think). God I hope I'm not wrong when speaking to Mr. Mopar himself

However, I recall reading on another website you could get it on the ES package, and perhaps another model as well. That's why I was curious. And yeah, I didn't see it on the door, but the one looked like it had a badge on it. The red with the hammerhead, and the black wheels with silver center caps is what made me think it was one. hmmm...

I'll have to do some digging on this. I just found another ad for a Motorsport edition Neon that was red, auto trans, hammerhead spoiler, and 15" snowflake wheels. It wasn't a Motorsport at all, but was being billed as such.

*edit*

Is this the post that you saw?
My 2001 Dodge Neon R/T Motorsports Isn't Just another Neon... When dodge came back into NASCAR in 01, They Decided to make a Special Production Option called, Motorsports Package, This package was added to the Intrepid, Dakota, and Neon Lines. 87 Total Neon motorsports were built in the ES, SE and R/T Equipped Neon's. Making any of the 87 Rare, but I have a 1 of 10, There are only 9 other Flame Red R/T's Equipped like mine on this Planet.
Also, I found this...

Motorsports Limited Edition Group $575
Wheels- 16" Cast Aluminum (Black)
Decal- "Dodge Motorsports", Frt Door
Decal- R/T, Rear Door
Track Bag (Ship to Customer)
Decal-Dodge, Windshield(In Track Bag)
Tires- P195/50R16 Yellow Letters AS/T
Floor Mats- "Dodge Motorsports" Logo

So if that is true, than it could be a rare best indeed! Again, I can run the VIN to make sure first of course.

I don't think that one is a MS. The "Wheels are powder coated black" that furthers that belief.

I still think that all MS editions got the same exterior treatment. I would like to know for sure though :-k

yes it is a MotorSport SE. I used to own one until it got totaled. That's how i have my motorsport rims on my R/T. The rims are silverstones that are painted black w/ a chrome lip. They used to be around $250 each from the dealer.

And with those pics... you can't see the door to look for the stickers. They could have also have been removed.

Yeah, the "powdercoated wheels" threw me off too. However, they look EXACTLY like motorsport wheels. I assumed he just didn't know and bought the car that way. Thanks 2K1

It has too many miles on it for my liking... If I had the money though, I'd buy it and use it as a winter beater  :thefinger:

When I was shopping for a new Neon in '02, Hubler Dodge here in Indy had an '01 R/T with the MSE option package still on their lot. It was black with a Slate Grey interior and I seem to remember the Motorsports logo stitched in all four headrests. I passed on it and got my Solar Yellow SXT instead (as much as I loved the SXT, I now wish that I had known back then just how rare those MSE vehicles were!).

I can imagine... Well I emailed the guy to see if he'll send me the VIN. If he does I'll have Dante look and see if it mentions anything.

nice. I like those wheels. I'm not really a fan of the silver center caps though. It makes them look like replacements to me.

Speaking of wheels... 2K1, or anyone... would you happen to know what wheels those are on the blue neon next to yours?? They look like some sort of Motegi to me. I really like the look of them.

Ok, cool. I PMed him. Although I found his Cardomain and there's no pics of them but it mentions SSR wheels, so that may be the case.

EDIT: I found info stating they are Phaze by Fast Wheels. I like.

There was one for sale here a while back, had thought about it, but didn't have too many options of picking it up, plus the ATX was a set back, tho that wouldn't have been an issue to change. Other than it not being original anymore... like it hadn't already had some upgrades.
